Rivlin becomes first president to attend the annual ceremony marking anniversary of Kfar Qassim massacre Reuven Rivlin on Sunday made history as the first incumbent Israeli president to make an official visit to the Arab village of Kafr Qasim for a ceremony marking the anniversary of the massacre of 49 of the village's residents by Israeli troops. During the ceremony marking the 58th anniversary of the massacre, Rivlin said: "I stand before you, the families of the victims and the wounded, as a son of the Jewish people and the president of the state of Israel, to feel the pain with you. The heinous killing that took place in your village is a dark and most unusual chapter in the history of the relationship between Jews and Arabs living here. "The Arab population in Israel is not a marginal group. It is part and parcel of this country. It will always be an essential component of the Israeli society. We were meant to live side by side and we are a part of the same fate," the president said. "I am not naive. We have never taken the responsibility on molding our mutual path together. Instead we let fear, hatred, ignorance and hostility navigate our relationship. I am well aware of the troubled relationship between the Jewish and the Arab people. I am aware that the establishment of the State of Israel was not a dream of the Arabs who lived in this country. Many of them suffer from racism and Condescension. But despite of the rooted hatred, I believe we can develop trust and partnership. We do not have any other choice," he added.
Source (i24 News)
"VILE JEW GLOATS OVER DEAD PALESTINIANS" -Lamar
Well obviously he's doing this just so he can appease the west so he can return to raping palestinian babies and burning every scrap of the gaza strip and the west bank.
Saying one thing and doing the other.
I think this is a good thing. Nearly 60 years ago but I can easily see many would still be as bitter as if it were yesterday. Recognition and accepting responsibility for these sorts of horrors is important for peace I think. [editline]26th October 2014[/editline]
"VILE JEW GLOATS OVER DEAD PALESTINIANS" -Lamar
These sorts of stupid snipes are honestly worse than Lamar constantly posting articles about Israel/Palestine. At least pretend to read past the thread title.
Well obviously he's doing this just so he can appease the west so he can return to raping palestinian babies and burning every scrap of the gaza strip and the west bank.
to be fair, this conflict is mainly caused by absolutism, both sides believe they are completely justified in their actions, really neither side is completely justified, israel has a right to defend itself from rocket barrages aimed at killing civilians and destroying their country, they just also tend to go a little too far and reduce everything they see to rubble. any progress away from absolutism is good progress at this point
Shimon Peres apologized for it in 2007. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/937116.html
