Computex, Asia's biggest technology trade show, is about to begin—and Nvidia's kicking it off with the announcement of its newest graphics card, the 980 Ti. Like the 780 Ti of 2013, the new 980 Ti is positioned between Nvidia's high-end option and its flagship Titan. The Titan X, released in March, is based on Nvidia's GM200 Maxwell GPU and offers a slightly absurd 12GB of VRAM for $1000. The 980 Ti is a cut-down version of GM200, with a more reasonable 6GB of VRAM and a more reasonable price: $650. And it's available now.
Or, at least, soon: according to Nvidia, the 980 Ti should be available shortly after announcing. That $650 price also includes a free copy of Batman: Arkham Knight thrown in. As the 980 Ti enters Nvidia's lineup, the 980 is dropping from its base price of $550 down to $500.
That's a lot better than the rumored $799
Just how much more powerful is the TI compared to the regular 980?
I literally don't know jack shit about hardware, the computer I am using now was bought in 2008-2009
Can't wait for AMD's response to this.

Watch as there won't be any. AMD doesn't seem to care much about desktop GPU space.
The NDA has been lifted so there are a few reviews out.

wait, the old advice price of the 980 was 550 USD? That thing has been like 630 euro over here :v:

Looking at raw compute specs, the 980 Ti is about 90% of a Titan X, or 140% the 980.
100$ more and I could have gotten a better card if I just waited
still 100$ more isn't going to give me a HUGE leap compared to a 970, at least not enough to justify it for me personally

It seems to be right about equal at most resolutions. 2x 980ti's would blow one Titan X out of the water for only $300 more. Though I am glad for once nvidia didn't screw over Titan buyers by releasing literally the same chip for cheaper like they did for the Titan/780 and Titan Black/780ti.
Anyone know when AMD will unveil the 300 series?

Back then, it was all about the firmware enabling full compute capabilities. The old Titans were entry-level compute cards, not just top-level graphics cards.
And then the Titan X came along and decided to be a shitty compute card, totally screwing everything up.
I'm still happy with my 290X Radeon, runs very well most modern games at maximum settings and 50 FPS.
Good to see Nvidia are slashing their prices though, I might consider buying one in the future.

If AMD doesn't care about the desktop GPU space I suppose all there money is made on consoles these days.
Hint: they have GPUs coming out. Also why would Nvidia pressure the price on their 980 right now with no competition? Seems kinda weird.

Probably gonna be more than 799 in scandinavia, usually adds a good 2-300 usd ontop of the card price for no fucking reason.

That's the reason as to why I imported my 580 way back when, iirc I saved at least $100

Doesn't Denmark have 25% value added tax? Because that's probably your reason (same as here).

AMD has something coming. They've been teasing a HBM-based 300 series for a while now.

Linus gets so red and bothered in this, it's great.
Christ, 90% of a Titan X's performance for around 60% of the price?
Looks like my 780 is being retired very soon.
Slightly upset that I got a 980 a month and a half ago but I think once I get another regular 980 to SLI I'll be good enough for a good 4 years or so. Looks like a great card though.
As a general NVidia rule, I try to always wait for the Ti version of the card I want to come out.
In my personal experience, they're almost always worth the wait. I am currently running a 780 Ti, and I have been very pleased with its performance, especially since my monitor is only 1080p / 75Hz capable. :v:

June 2nd or June 3rd iirc. But they're only going to be rebrands of the 200 series.

The 390 and 390x will not be.
God dammit, and I JUST bought a 980 GTX last week. :T
Oooh how convenient! i was just going over pricing a new build so i could buy Witcher 3 for PC!

Well the regular 980s are being price slashed as a part of this, so not all is lost if you are indeed getting another one.
