How linear is it is what I want to know. Gothic 3 was pretty open, Risen being the spiritual successor much less so. Gothic 4 was as linear as Call of Duty. It makes RPGs less fun if there's nothing branching out from the main path

If it's any clue, Risen 1 was very open. You could end up in an area where the monsters were much higher level than you and you'd get annihilated.
They really need to get better animators.
The environments in the Risen games looked great but everything was as stiff as a board.

It was still much less open than Gothic 3.
They did a pretty good job of justifying why you couldn't go wherever you wanted through the plot, though.
Why was Risen 2 such garbage
I don't understand how or why Risen games keep being made. Aren't they all awful?

No, Risen 1 was good. Risen 2 was pretty bad.
My main gripe with these games is combat. It's so clunky and it doesn't look like R3 changes much.
Looks like it'll be pretty similar to R2, aka shit.
Fuck, Gothic was awesome, now they're making shit games.
