Authorities in Canada have charged the food giants Nestle and Mars, together with a network of independent wholesale distributors, in an alleged conspiracy to fix prices of chocolates.

Mars Canada said in a statement: "Mars Canada intends to vigorously defend itself against these allegations. It is Mars Canada's policy not to comment on pending litigation and we are therefore unable to make any additional comments in relation to this matter, which is now before the court."

Officials said Hershey Canada, an alleged co-conspirator, is expected to plead guilty at a hearing later this month in exchange for leniency.
**REESE'S** $2.50 for a tiny ass fucking bar was getting stupid. Thankfully dollarama had two for 75¢.
Good thing I only buy Cadbury chocolate bars.
Is making unhealthy chocolates more expensive really a bad thing?
Everything is a conspiracy.
Is making unhealthy chocolates more expensive really a bad thing?
It isn't if it's just one thing, but what they're doing is getting a cartel of different traders together and collectively raising the price little by little. That's kind of illegal.
Is making unhealthy chocolates more expensive really a bad thing?
yes it's not like those going up in price made anything healthy go down in price
Is making unhealthy chocolates more expensive really a bad thing?
Artificially inflating prices they way they did it is kind of illegal
Good thing I only buy Cadbury chocolate bars.
I only like the big ones with unique flavors like Oreo, and some of the various packs of small chocolates they do. Sometimes I buy milk chocolate bars (plain) just for the heck of it, but most of the time I prefer having a plain or biscuit galaxy. I've never liked Mars bars because I'm not a great fan of caramel, I find it to be a bit sickly and naff. I've grown to love skittles recently because they're cheap, plentiful in packets and their flavor and time taken to consume lasts many times that of a chocolate bar.
muh choclate
After reading about that story of privatizing water, I don't doubt them of price fixing.
I could see paying $3 for these candy bars if they were anything like the candy bars from the 50's and 60's. They're just tiny and pitiful compared to back then
One time, my family came home to find that our dog managed to get and eat an entire bag of Hersheys kisses. You know, those big bags, like the ones you get for Halloween to have enough to give out. He didn't even get sick. Granted, he was a big dog, and this was over 10 years ago, but still. I'm just saying, there's not actually that much chocolate in the majority of chocolate products.
Mars Canada said in a statement: "Mars Canada intends to vigorously defend itself against these allegations."
I find it funny when a company that knows it's doing something illegal can go to court and possibly get away with it, or in some circumstances know they can get away with it. I can't say anything yet until the trial for people to show some solid evidence.
It is Free Market don't interfere
It is Free Market don't interfere
ron paul will fix it
It is Free Market don't interfere
Free market is bullshit. People are just going to buy whichever kind of candy bars they prefer. They know they can spike the prices and people will still buy the same ones.
After reading about that story of privatizing water, I don't doubt them of price fixing.
Companies don't even need to care about their public image anymore it seems. I wouldn't pay 2.50$ for a chocolate Bar. I always manage to find them in bulk or at least less than a dollar.
79 cents bitches

Isn't this happening with most products? I didn't even know it was illegal
Makes me kind of glad the Walgreens near me regularly has specifically Mars and Nestle stuff go on sale, usually 2 for a dollar, aka how much a candy bar used to be around here. I miss the days when I could go to any little store and get a candy bar for 50 cents. I don't even really buy them now a days, but it sucks having to wait for a sale to get a tiny candy bar when I have a hankering for one.
Good thing I only buy Cadbury chocolate bars.
Cadbury's been ruined anyway.
$2.50 for chocolate? And I thought $1.50 here in the states was a bit much. Why aren't there riots in the streets?
Pretty sure it's the sugar/caffeine in products that effects dogs.
It's theobromine found in cocoa that is highly poisonous to dogs. The caffeine is also bad for them but unlike theobromine it's unlikely to cause seizures/death.
$2.50 for chocolate? And I thought $1.50 here in the states was a bit much.
because unlike americans, canadians dont take to the streets and start swinging mis-spelled signs around when Twinkies stop being sold. at least, i hope so.
I don't know, Chocolate is a big deal.
Looks like they're Choc Blocking the competition!!
because unlike americans, canadians dont take to the streets and start swinging mis-spelled signs around when Twinkies stop being sold. at least, i hope so.
Candians sure aren't afraid of rioting over hockey though.
Isn't this happening with most products? I didn't even know it was illegal
What do you mean? Unless you're talking about inflation, which is just economics.
