This looks really fucking good.
Was half expecting a "Press X to long live the captain" part
the admiral has some solid facial animations i gotta say :v:
God damn it, they still can't overcome this CoD staple facial animation thing where only the lower half of the face moves and "wrinkles" properly, while the upper half is just dead with only eyes turning in eye-sockets. It's eerie as fuck.

Dammit, just show me what Kit Harington's character is like. Pretty sure it'll be his first role as a villain.

Where did all the dirt on their faces come from?
Still the most immersive "cinematics" are the ones where you can move freely and ignore everyone while watching quality of the textures on random objects around you. Nothing cool about watching people talk in a room, there are TV shows for that.

My only problem is the faces look a little weird
could be terrible performance from the actors themselves maybe they're actually cyborgs :mystery:
I don't think their faces were motion captured, only their bodies
I don't think their faces were motion captured, only their bodies
Nope, there's videos on IW's YouTube channel showing clips of their mocap setup in use for the game; looks like they have a camera rig on the actor's headgear and/or mocap "dots" on their faces. However, depending on how IW's artists translate that mocap performance into in-game animations... that's really the bread and butter of it at the end of the day. I'm actually somewhat optimistic about this game; might wind up buying it after some of the first post-launch reviews are out if it's not too buggy.
Dammit, just show me what Kit Harington's character is like. Unless he's a secondary antagonist, but something tells me his presence in the game will be limited to maybe 1 or 2 levels.
Now that you pointed it out i cant watch this anymore since thats all i see.
Weird, all the animations look fine to me except the admirals.
Where did all the dirt on their faces come from?
prior to getting to that point, there is an earlier mission where you are on Earth iirc.
Weird, all the animations look fine to me except the admirals.
The admiral is the worst. It's like hes actually a cyborg. (maybe he is?)
Cutscene was a bit meh, but shit i do like the direction they seem to have taken this in. I'm actually interested in this one. Note: I am not getting my hopes up.
im excited purely they are going all out in building the world around the game. The two factions are polar opposites tech wise, theres made up gun companies that have very distinct differences of the handling and usage of their weapons (an american type company has robust and powerful but slow ROF weapons, while a japanse one is more slick with a focus on energy weapons that allow fast fire rates with charge shots).
The biggest problem with facial animations is the lack of 'spontaneity'. That is, every movement in the actor's face looks too calculated and sculpted, too robotic. It's a lack of random movements in the face. Again, looking back at how LA Noire did things, yeah it kind of looks like a low-res video slapped onto a 3D model by today's standards but it's still one of the most convincing looking facial animation systems ever because it captured every tick and tremble in actors face, including movements in muscles not directly tied to the mouth, eyes, and forehead. Another comparable animation system (in terms of belivability and detail) would be Star Citizen's
I know it's been said a thousand times but HL2 was fucking fantastic with their faces, because it didn't require a bunch of work and didn't require mocap or any of that extra data. it was all hand keyed and if the tool were a bit better, it'd be miles above what exists now. TF2 improved on it with wrinkle maps and HWM, and L4D/L4D2 pretty much perfected it. All automated and yet constant modifications, plus the scaleability was nice because the data would be tied to the mp3/wav file, not in some animation file somewhere, so you could drop any voice line onto any character with matching flexes and it'd work. if i had a choice, i'd probably use a system similar to that with a more expandable flex system like HWM vs. FACs. just the backend alone is great, you can run all your voice clips through the automated process and it'd work well because FACs was hard to break, or you can modify it for key characters and make sure they're emoting the right feelings. that shit just doesn't exist with garbage faceFX. lol are they supposed to look like they're about to cry
I mean they look real enough, just, don't ask them to talk, or emote.
I think it was a pretty good cutscene, the facial animation is really hard to get right though and this still seems to suffer from the typical uncanny valley, but I think it set a nice atmosphere and the interaction between them seemed natural imo.

It's cute that the brit says "Left-tenant" and everyone else says "Lieu-tenant".
