Hey all, I am trying to learn the Russian language. Any advice?
Also, is it really possible to play a tape while you sleep and learn basics of a language (I didn't think this was true, I figured it was all hollywood). IF it is, where can I find a tape lol
Say everything in a deep, rugged voice.
Play Metro 2033 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Make sentences shorter.
Get books, take a class, live in Russia. Why do you want to learn it?
There are no shortcuts, you cannot learn a language while you sleep.
I'm asking if it worked, that wasnt the point of the thread though.
Yeah. Learn English first.

In regards to the title. :c
Chug an entire bottle of vodka, wait about 5-10 minutes, and then just talk. Simple as that.
Your speech will become so slurred that you'll sound Russian, creating the illusion that you can actually speak it.
Good advice, taken to heart!
I am a native Russian, and I tell you DON'T learn Russian
Language is hard and not useful at all
Go learn Chinese/French/German/Italian/Spanish, they are much more useful

Heh nice, I'm gonna be learning Russian sometime here soon, then after that I'm learning German.
My suggestion, don't do it by yourself. Take a class. I spent 6 months trying to teach myself and literally got nowhere.
I wanted to learn Russian when I was a kid so I could talk to my grandparents but it was too damn hard.
My school teaches Russian. It's a really fun language to learn, but it's off. I would recommend you learn Spanish or something more widely spoken in America.
I'm learning Russian and I can give the following advice.
A: Don't try Russian until you've mastered English, cough cough.
B: Russian is quite hard, there are a lot of suffixes and conjugations that it's nigh impossible to remember them all.
C: The alphabet is easier than it looks.
D: Even though there are a lot of suffixes and that, sentence structure is quite easy.
And to superstepa, only Spanish and Chinese are more spoken than Russian, why not learn Russian?
Also, Russian is more impressive than Spanish/Italian/French/German, it sounds cooler :v:
French is spoken in other countries like canada, and more popular than in Russia (I'll tell you a secret, french was an official second language in Russia of the 18 century)
I still feel sad that I have chosen german over french, we used to have a horrible teacher who wasn't doing anything. She just left the class at the beginning and returned there in the end saying : " Are you done, guys?"
If you see a leering Russian then you must do one of 3 things.
1) Run, run away fast. Try and do it in zigzag. A normal Russian's diet is high in alcohol so he has trouble turning corners. A Russian can charge at least 20 miles an hour but once he tries to turn he will usually slow down to a crawl.
2) Toss a bottle of vodka at him. Russians usually get angry and leer at someone because they are thirsty. A Russian can not drink normal water, instead they drink vodka. Offering vodka is a sign of goodwill to a Russian, and could save your life. Warning, this method may have unintended consequences. Including(but not limited to) the Russian asking for more vodka the next time he sees you, the Russian thinking you are his friend and constantly asking you out to bars, and the Russian trying to hug you and tell you how much he loves you after become "hydrated".
3) Play dead. Cover your groin and face. The Russian may paw at you some, but he will likely get bored and move on shortly.
In no situation should you try and confront the leering Russian. A Russian is a ferocious fighter capable of shredding apart at least 3 unarmed men at once. They are incredibly quick and brutal. If you must confront a leering Russian, an elephant gun is the only way to increase your chance of survival.

By the way it's spelled leer, not lear.

OH MY GOD ITS A LANGUAGE FROM ANOTHER WORLD, HE'S GOING TO KILL US
Im a native russian speaker too, and i just want to say that russian is a hard language. It takes the average russian kid the first 7 years of his life to become borderline fluent, so it will probably take you a bit more than that as adults learn slower..
Play free to play lobby based MMOs and leave VOIP on.

Or just play MW2 on pc and leave voip on..
Learn Serbian first. Now that you learned one of the hardest languages in the world, all the languages in the same category(Slovak,Russian...) will be very easy. That's me on French.
Call everyone you see as comrade and if you hate someone call them dog and pig.
Are you going to Russia or are you just one of those Russian weeaboos?
You need to surround youself in the language. Learn some of the language online, then play on Russian servers were you are forced to speak, eventually you will get it.
Instead please learn english, you seem to suck at it.
Also Russian is an easy language to learn, the letters sound exactly what they are called and such.
You'll pick up on it if you actually take a class in it instead of trying psuedo sleep bullshit.
Once you've fully learned the language, I'll need you to contact me and move to Washington DC. There is...lots of work to be done.
