Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990. Since their inception, the band's line-up has included drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Since 1995, Justin Chancellor has been the band's bassist, replacing their original bassist Paul D'Amour. Tool has won three Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.
Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and relatively long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship and the band members' insistence on privacy.

Listen and watch some of the videos and songs these guys have out and tell me they weren't on some serious shit when they made them.
I've always liked Maynard's vocals. He has a really powerful voice. The guitarist is pretty good at making simple things sound full and interesting. He's good with using feedback to his advantage too. Prison sex=awesome song.
Powerful vocals, good guitarist, good bassist, God like drummer, what more? They need new album.
OP needs more content.
Tool are amazing. Danny Carey is the reason I started drumming.
I love Tool. Third eye off the Salival disk is the best I've heard of them.
A Perfect Circle is good too.
I don't really like the singer, but the bassist is awesome.

Out of curiousity, why don't you like him?
Adam Jones is the reason I started guitar, and Maynard is the reason I'm not horrible at singing. Awesome band. Lateralus is my personal favourite album by them, Aenima'a awesome aswell, and 10,000 Days has some epic songs on it. Not a fan of Undertow though, Opiate's good.

For some reason he sounds really young and sometimes tired. I do like his voice in the Schism video in the OP, starting at 2:48.
A tool inspired band: Earshot

I really liked 10,000 days compared to their other stuff, too bad Maynard a freak with a shit live voice

My favorite song by them
Listenin to Vicarious right now, fucking love Tool.

Not like he was not signing for 20 or more years right? Singing very often for such a long time can ruin everyone's voice.
Tool are a really fucking weird band.
Although I love Hooker With A Penis. Yeah.
also i want to buy the picture disc LP of lateralus
Such a talented bunch of musicians, but the singer has to come in and ruin it with his filthy vocals...
favorite band rite thurr.
new album next year from what I understand? they've hinted at it a few times, and according to their album release pattern its about that time again lol.
Maynard's vocals fit perfectly with their style of music..

They match the music perfectly.... What type of vocals do you think would suit Tool?
yeah pretty cool band back when i was getting into music listening to breaking benjamin and creed. when it comes down to it their music is incredibly simple, just as much as nirvana's was, if not even more. try some real prog like watchtower for an example of some real complex shit :)
I love Tool to bits.

No vocals at all. Maybe I'm a dick, but I think a lot of music sounds better without the vocals.

You sir have just proved how little you know about writing music. Tools music is harmonically and structurally incredibly complex, their writing style is completely out there.

Just learn to phase it out. Works for me on songs I hate the vocals on.

I agree with you sort of. There are some bands that would be great without vocals, and instrumental music is awesome, but Maynard's vocals give such emotion and intensity to the music and I couldn't really imagine the band without him

Sometimes music without vocals sounds just empty, and Maynard's lyrics and his singing ability adds greatly to their music. In song The Grudge I think he growls for good 20 seconds, also his country style singing in The Pot, he's a very versatile voice.

My favourite song when it comes to emotions is probably Eulogy from Aenima.

Also Tool's cover of the Led Zeppelin's No Quarter is great it's on the Salival Album, but I'll post it here.

It's hard to find good quality on youtube, this one is probably the best.

Not to mention he is a great lyricist.
I really like the live version of Pushit (Salival). Both the live and album versions are great but this live version is just so good to listen to, it builds up so well.

Saw that gap again today...
I forgot to mention, their music is probably one of the reasons I learn to play guitar, I can easily relate to Adam Jones for it, he's a great visual artist and a good guitarist, I've myself learned to play couple of tool's songs, and it helped me develop my skills a lot in playing.

Seriously? What´s wrong with the vocals? He has such a unique voice and IMO he sounds better live than in studio. Try to find me a bad live performance and maybe I can try to understand you. I can´t find one.

You must be one of those who think playing guitar 300 bpm makes a song complex. While Tool might not be as complex as say King Crimson, songs like Schism and Third Eye are probably 10 times more complex than the stuff you think is.
