There are actually so many fucking uses for this.
Off the top of my head, I'm sure it would be possible to replicate this with a small field of grass, showing you where someone or an animal is on it, with nothing but wires running from the ground.
You could rig your front yard to tell you when someone is coming. Since this can read multiple levels of touch, you could easily tell if it was just a bird in your yard or a person. Who needs doorbells? This could also have security uses.
Why rig up a laser tripwire system when you can just get the ground itself to tell you if something is approaching and how much ruckus it's making.
