I remember a friend of mine used a lot of mods like this, to the point where it almost looked like a FOX Engine game.
Yeah, I remember this mod became an essential thing when I played Resident Evil 5 on PC for the first time. Seeing that the game actually had these vivid colors behind that awful color filter/grading made me a bit annoyed, since I really was perplexed why they went with that ugly grim green. Maybe it's one of those silly choices in the name of being more cinematic?
For anybody interested because of this thread, RE5 for PC is the best version of the game hands down. Runs well, looks good, plays great. You can change the crosshair back to the laser aiming, edit the fov to whatever, and offset Sheva to the left side of the screen.
Only problem is the gold edition breaks the splitscreen mod (and a lot of others), so be careful about that. There's also the Alone in Africa mod to remove sheva from Single player if you're more of a RE4 person.

Oh, turns out Capcom put the original version in the beta options for the game so all the mods'll work on that.

When I saw preview images for RE5 before its release, the colours were all natural, so I guess somewhere along the line they decided that a grey filter would suit the game more.
Removing the colour grading doesn't suit the tone of the game at all
Looks like a Far Cry game
Other than some occasional rooms/levels that looked a bit better or a bit worse It didn't feel like there was too great of a difference tbh.
Makes the game look worse imo, the colors just look washed out. For Resident Evil 5 I've always used this SweetFx
It gets rid of the green hue but keeps the overall tone of the game, or at least I think it does.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Developing with color correction in mind is just as important, if not more important than it is in films.
Case in point (focus on the colors, not the lighting, which is a legitimate but completely separate issue)

The game does lose a little character, yet honestly the original grimy green not only doesn't make sense (there's no airborne infection or anything, it's entirely mood setting) but also really just completely drowns out all the colors. Which is weird since it clearly wants to be moody but the bright sunlight and open skies combined with the 'takes itself seriously besides the narmy dialogue' really ruins a lot of the mood to begin with.

Real life is colorful and vibrant, not green puke
Real life is colorful and vibrant, not green puke
Resident Evil 5 hardly resembles real life.
Real life is colorful and vibrant, not green puke
It's also not as colorful as this game is without the color grading. It's more subtle than that. Without the color grading making everything green, it looks like someone had multicolored vomit. The game itself would need some desaturation before it looks realistic.
Real life is colorful and vibrant, not green puke
Real life isn't a horror game with a very deliberate visual style.
Removing the colour grading doesn't suit the tone of the game at all
Yeah the game was meant to imitate the Black Hawk Down, which has the same color grading and contrast.
Looking back, all the other games had similar color correction. RE4 was like 90% brown and previous games were all tinted cyan and green.

That deliberate visual style is green puke? I'd rather not have that.

That's what this mod is for :downs:

RE4 didn't have an ugly filter slapped on the screen though
RE4 didn't have an ugly filter slapped on the screen though
But does that really matter if the end result is still a desaturated image that is 90% one color?

Yes, because the scenery was made with that color pallet in mind, not some sudden change really late into development

Didn't RE5 always have the laser aiming? The crosshair aiming was in RE6 which could be changed into laser aiming anyways and I never had any issues playing as Sheva even with her being left handed instead of right. Tribal Sheva costume :speedfap:
Is the framerate locked to 30?

Are you trying to imply RE5's color correction was tacked on late into development? Do you have any evidence for that claim? I find it hard to believe that a game meant to look gritty spent the majority of its development with a vibrant color scheme in the developers' minds.
There's a reason people use color correction (be it a movie, game, or photograph). It sets a tone. If you don't like the color scheme, that's perfectly fine, feel free to download the mod, but you don't have to treat it like it's an objectively bad design choice that doesn't belong in the game.
Didn't RE5 always have the laser aiming?
Nope. PC release had a really ugly crosshair and that was it.

There was a period of almost three years where the only footage of RE5 was vibrant. The green tint wasn't shown until TGS 2008.

With RE5, the only colours I care about are black on white (not safe for work).
