This year I took it upon myself to do something actually productive with myself.
I decided to make a custom Daft Punk helmet.
I am not a craftsman, nor have I ever tried building something like this before, so the result may vary.
I will be documenting the process via My Photobucket.
The project isn't too terribly elaborate, but I'd thought id't be cool to see from start to finish.
I'm kind of doing this solo, so if anyone has any suggestions for me please don't hesitate.
Construction start date: 10/23
Estimated completion date: 10/25 ~ 10/28
Feel free to follow my Photobucket, there will be photos uploaded every day or so, be patient!
From the looks of things, it looks as though you're making a Guy-Manuel helmet? Do you have any plans to make it illuminated with LEDs?
Yes, It's a Guy-Manuel helmet :)
I bought an LED Belt buckle for use as the screen.

I'm working on a TB helmet!
I need to get a LED belt buckle, but I can't get one before Oct 31, where did you get yours? :c
estimating only 3 days for technical small fiberglass work... ok. I'd give yourself more like 2 weeks. The process is not hard, it's allowing everything to cure appropriately that takes time.

The fiberglass will be applied after Halloween depending on weather or not I decide to keep the helmet or sell it.

I got mine off of amazon.
If you hurry, and get rush shipping, you may get it soon!
Did you happen to notice the photoshopped words on the belt buckly screen you linked, the fint is so unrealistic to what its going to actually look like.
If I was doing one of these, which I think one day I would like to, I'd build a led matrix panel out of raw 3 or 5 millimeter leds and make a template of wood with a similar curve as the "see through" panel of the mask. Something like a 16 pixle tall by maybe 64 or so wide until it stretches completely across. then just put a piece of curved plexiglass over the leds and wire up to a few shift registers and a Pic/AVR microcontroller.
This would obviously take a bit longer than your halloween deadline.
The led grid panel for the mask would be using whats called multiplexing if you are not familiar

You control the pixles by a combination of pulling row/col pins high and low. I'f you decided to take it this far I'm sure someone in the EE section would help you out.
I would love to make a better LED panel.
Unfortunately, I lack experience in electricity and circuitry and this would be very challenging.
I've heard that you can actually make a see-through panel with a PET sheet or something.
I'd love to make one.
Ok, I just programmed the little LED Belt Buckle, and I have to say, it's frankly terrible.
I think I might want a PET sheet of some sort. To the EE section!
Update: I fixed up the helmet! This year I plan on wearing it again and it's better than ever!
