Hey facepunch, I know your not a psychiatrist, but you're certified e-doctors and humans. For a while I've been scared as hell at bugs. Anything larger then a mosquito in plain site would scare me shitless. I would rather have a gun to my face then a bug on my face. When I see anything remotely like a wasp or bee i run the fuck away. If I see a spider, I run the fuck away. If I see something like a house fly, I basically get away.
My fear of flies wasn't originally that large, but it got worse and is continuing to, it's really starting to interfere with my life. I'm scared by the thought of there being bugs around me without my knowledge. Sucking my blood leaving marks, crawling on my while I'm sleeping, Generally just being bitches of nature.
I would always try to shrug it off as a normal reaction but after dealing with shitting myself over a housefly for an hour today It's time to take action.
I know it probably sounds silly to a normal person, but I'm just scared really fucking badly by insects, I want to know if anyone else was and found a way to over come it. I've used google but the thought of desensitization is stupid to me. If anyone has any kind of advice I'd appreciate it.

that's what i did, now i swim in pools of beetles, really. not even joking, that got rid of my fear of most bugs
I'm overly afraid of insects, That's why I have a nifty electrically charged swatter.
Also, Holding a tarantula and a scorpion helped me a little.
Eat them.
Or live with them Start an ant farm or collect Pill Bugs. One you study them, their harmlessness comes into view.
Unless you study poison ones. Then you will be more scared because some of those things can really mess you up.
Destroy every last one of them, they'll never creep you out again.
Bug spray, bug zapper, fly swatter. You'll feel safe with those around.

I can't even think about doing that with the larger flies, it seems so sick smashing them and hearing a crunch wth some shit stuck to your hands.
Instead of repelling his fear why not offer ways to get over it? I say just think about it for a bit, its a fly, can it really be that bad? It is harmless, along with many other insects.

I started saving rose beetles (not keeping, but saving from danger etc.) because I like beetles. Usually when my mom cuts the roses a couple of beetles are hiding among the roses and they don't get washed out, and if I find any I put them in a jar and put them outside.

This may seem like a joke answer, but seriously, overdose (Incoming immature joke) on them. That way if you see one bug, you won't be scared.
It's basically like pushing someone with a fear of heights out of a plane. Next time they're on the 20'th story and look down they won't be scared, because they've already jumped out of a plane at 10,000 ft.
Same concept with bugs. I don't know how you wanna do it, but yea, like other people have said, hold tarantulas n' shit. That way next time you see one tiny spider you won't be scared anymore, considering you've held a tarantula already.
