• YouTube Admits Fault With Policy Enforcement, Promises Improvements
Recently, there's been a lot of discussion about the enforcement of our policies, from video takedowns to channel demonetization. We want you to know that we monitor video takedowns very closely, and while we haven't seen a big change in the overall rate of removals, it's true that we do make mistakes. For this, we're sorry and we strive to do better by you, our community. The good news is that the feedback you've raised in comments and videos on YouTube and beyond is having an impact. It's caused us to look closely at our policies and helped us identify areas where we can get better. It's led us to create a team dedicated to minimizing mistakes and improving the quality of our actions. And it's encouraged us to roll out some initiatives in the coming months that will help strengthen communications between creators and YouTube support. We'll also make improvements to increase transparency into the status of monetization claims. And of course, as we work to implement these improvements as quickly as we can, we'll continue to take your feedback seriously. -- Spencer from YouTube's Policy Team
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/x3aGmn_MsqI
Thank you @YouTube community for all the feedback. We're listening: http://goo.gl/uOCKEx @GradeAUnderA @ChannelAwesome @IHE_OFFICIAL
Looks like the collection of YouTubers making noise about this may have actually had an impact.
Huh, I did not expect them to actually respond or even acknowledge it. I guess it remains to be seen what they actually do about it.
i have a feeling they'll just acknowledge it and do nothing about it like valve is doing with steam support.
Glad to hear, but I won't be convinced until I actually see the changes in place.
How cute, trying to make us think they actually care.
Great! Now people can return to their usual content instead complaining about youtube.
Actions speak louder than words. They can make the nicest apology letter to everyone and I'd still consider them to be careless, especially with how much big channels have this shit happen to them. If they looked at the take downs "closely" maybe they wouldn't have needed millions of users to say "Hey asshole, fix your shit."
They better figure it out fast. Mumkey's Anime Reviews got taken down because some guy falsely accused Mumkey of copyrighting "Video Reviews" and got a mass of people to report his videos to flash terminate his account. Mumkey has less then 10k subs and had no idea what hit him.
Well that's something [editline]27th February 2016[/editline] #Makeyoutubegreatagain
actions speak louder than words
I cant believe Grade actually did something. Like, where did the time go? When did he get so big?
why is it to have anything fair, we have to start a massive riot?
They said they were going to better protect their content creators before and did nothing, so I'll believe it when I see it
Actions can't speak guys
And my bets on nothing would happen or it will and it's something extremely small.
DMCA claims are always filed under penalty of perjury. What we need to see happen is individuals and companies being dragged before a judge for abusing the system.
idk what you guys are on about but I trust youtube to keep their word because if they don't keep their word, it's going to get worse for youtube's reputation
I like how the CEO tagged GradeA in her tweet
idk what you guys are on about but I trust youtube to keep their word because if they don't keep their word, it's going to get worse for youtube's reputation
It doesn't matter. YouTube has no competitors, they can do whatever they want and they will remain just as popular because what other options are there? Who has the money and the willingness to create a real competitor to YouTube who wouldn't also bend over backwards for fear of being sued? Look at Twitch they got big and did all this shit to appease the copyright gods or whatever.
words dont matter, actions do. youtube is basically going "okay :^)"
DMCA claims are always filed under penalty of perjury. What we need to see happen is individuals and companies being dragged before a judge for abusing the system.
The thing is, a 'Youtube DMCA claim' aren't legally considered actual DMCAs, which is why it has been abused so much. Youtube needs to crackdown on people who abuse the DMCA/content claim system like Merlin Network, either by going after them legally, or stripping them of their power to file these claims.
About time they said something. Now it's time to do something.
We want you to know that we monitor video takedowns very closely
April Fools' Day isn't for another month yet, YouTube.
I cant believe Grade actually did something. Like, where did the time go? When did he get so big?
Not to downplay Grade, but a lot of larger channels were making this known before him. He was a part of it, it's not just him.
Haha, nice, YouTube responds to years of customer complaints before Valve does.
Talk is cheap. Let's see them actually do something about this
It's good to see Youtube finally doing something about this. Hopefully we see some good changes in Youtube soon.
Actions can't speak guys
Slapping you in the face for posting that would send a clear message. :v:
We want you to know that we monitor video takedowns very closely
HAHA no you don't
I don't understand why they haven't just implemented escrow for claims. Instead of allowing people to instantly profit off of false claims, just send that ad income to a storage account and hold it until the copyright claim is solved. And then give it to the party that wins as a lump sum plus all future earnings. It's been suggested more times than I can count and it's a great solution to this issue. If you can't make a fake company to put in fake takedowns to get real money instantly without consequences, that should be the end of a lot of the profiteering takedowns. The vengeful "i hate your channel" takedowns are a separate thing that needs to be addressed separately.
