False widow spider: Woman has finger amputated after bite
A woman has had her finger amputated after being bitten by a false widow spider.
Andrea Wallace, from Seaham, County Durham, was bitten in a Sunderland park and described the result as "like something out of a horror movie".
The attack left her with flesh-eating bug necrotising fasciitis, which required 10 weeks in hospital.
I love spiders, we have a few false widows living in our flat near the windows- never even considered the possibility that they could carry disease,
kinda bothers me that they are capable of carrying a flesh eating bug :tinfoil:
That's a surprisingly fucked up outcome.
I don't think the spiders have the disease. I think the bite caused an open wound, which allowed the bacteria a way in.

Kill them don't let them breed :S

Necrotic bacteria isn't the kind of thing you'd pick up by touching a doorknob.
Didn't know what they looked like, Googled False widow spider, I got 32 inches of one of the most scariest, creepiest spider I have ever seen. I feel like there all over me now. :tinfoil:
Many types of bacteria can cause necrotizing fasciitis (e.g., Group A streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, Aeromonas hydrophila[SUP][4][/SUP]). The disease is classified as Type I (polymicrobial, due to a number of different organisms) or Type II (monomicrobial, due to a single infecting organism). The majority of cases of necrotizing fasciitis are polymicrobial, with 25-45% of cases being Type II.[SUP][5][/SUP]
The disease is caused by some of the most common bacteria out there. It just takes specific conditions for the disease to begin and progress.

In fact:
The majority of infections are caused by organisms that normally reside on the individual's skin
More evidence that all spiders are evil. This was premeditated.

Your skin, and the world are really filthy. There are quite a few nasty things just sitting patiently on your body, waiting for a chance to do thing. Ex. fungal mouth infections, toxoplasmosis, etc.

it's kind of scary how we're all carrying bacteria that would cause some real damage if they ever got a way in and caused an infection
What the hell is a false widow? Does claim her husband is dead to get the insurance money while he stays in the basement so nobody spots him?
It's a really nasty bacteria... My nephew who was only 1 years old at the time contracted it.
It was terrible to see him get eaten away inch by inch, his fingers and toes went black and there was nothing anyone could do about it because it was also in his throat.
The funeral was the saddest thing I have seen in my life. My uncle put the little coffin in the ground himself..
This woman should consider herself very lucky.
I would like to know which park in sunderland she got bitten at; this is very disconcerting since I live in Sunderland.

Not all of them are dangerous though, most of the ones you have on your skin are harmless and keep the nastier ones at bay.
I had a staph.a infection on my hands a few years back, all the skin fell off, antibiotics cleared it up fairly nicely though. (I at the time had pretty bad eczema on my hands)

That's the saddest thing ive ever read on fp :(
Anyone who sees a foreign spider like this should catch one for research purposes and commit mass-genocide against the rest.
all things considered, losing a finger to necrotizing faciitis is an EXTREMELY good outcome. most people lose a hand, limb, or more.
I've used to see those all the time at my old house, shit I had no idea the bites could be that serious. I googled them, they're pretty gross.

They're not that serious assuming you contact the proper care for it

Saddest thing I've witnessed and will ever witness probably.
