Iraqi government forces have seized several villages as they move towards an assault on the last area held by the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Mosul. Hundreds of military vehicles, backed by air power, rolled across the desert towards IS positions early on Sunday. The progress on Sunday in the south of the city, the second biggest in Iraq, takes them within striking distance of Mosul airport.
Government forces retook the eastern side of the city, the last major IS stronghold in Iraq, last month. But military officials say the western side, with its narrow, winding streets, may prove a bigger challenge.
For now, there is no advance from eastern Mosul as all bridges from there to the west of the city, across the Tigris river, have been destroyed.
Looks like this is the beginning of the end for ISIS in Iraq.
I honestly hope this ends conflict in the middle east for a while as for the longest i can remember that entire area has always been at war.
The Kurds are approaching Raqqa as well.

I'd like to hope so too, though given the situation any long-term stability is still a way off the horizon. The only good thing that might come out of this conflict would be that the Kurds have gained more strength and something of a homeland to call their own.

I don't think Turkey will ever let that happen.

Just hope they do not try any Arabic ethnic cleansing in their new territories. And that they're able to peacefully unite and not fracture between Syrian Kurds, Iraqi Kurds and Turkish Kurds. And that they embrace democracy. And Turkey doesn't immediately invade them.
So many things that could go wrong... :worried:

Those dipshits can go fuck themselves.

Trump might help turks at everyone else's expense
Trump might help turks at everyone else's expense
But doesn't Russia hate the Turks right now?
I don't think Turkey will ever let that happen.
Turkey is incapable of taking Al-Bab with 12,000 troops vs roughly 500 ~ 1000 ISIS fighters. As far as I'm concerned, Turkey's military is a laughing stock of the modern world.

ISIS is a very little factor in why the middle east is still at war.
I don't think the Superpowers have anything to gain from a peaceful ME.

The middle east will be at war forever while it is still ruled by Islam.

It's an Improvised Rocket-Assisted Munition (IRAM). Iran introduced them to the Iraqi insurgency at the height of the US Occupation along with EFPs. It's interesting to see how their use has grown beyond that

I'm reminded... what's the current status of the Mosul Dam?

Nothing has been done to fix it, so its still probably fucked.
