http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8647500.stm [release]Mexico has urged its nationals to carry proper documentation with them to Arizona in response to a tough new immigration law in the US state. In a travel alert, the foreign ministry says there will be a "negative political environment" for Mexican visitors and migrants. The law, signed into law last week, requires Arizona police to question people on their immigration status. The Mexican government has condemned the legislation as "discriminatory". The law is due to come into effect in 90 days despite strong criticism from President Barack Obama and protests. 'Harassed' The alert recommends Mexicans travelling to Arizona to ensure they "act with prudence and respect local laws". "As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time," it reads. It also reminds citizens that they are protected by international human rights laws. Mexican President Felipe Calderon has warned that relations with Arizona would suffer and that his country would use all means at its disposal to defend its people. Under the new rules, those unable to show that they are legally allowed in the US could be given six-month jail sentences and fined $2,500 (about £1,600). The law was signed by Arizona Republican Governor Jan Brewer, who said it "protects every American citizen". Supporters say not enough is being done at a national level to address the problem of immigrants and drugs crossing the border from Mexico to the US. The state is home to an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants. Mr Calderon is due to discuss the issue with Mr Obama in Washington next month. [/release] I can't wait to see this law crash and burn.
Fucking Arizona.
:godwin:
damn commie spies

Fucking Arizona
Incoming authoritarians. "If you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't have any problems with racial profiling. This article seems really biased. Sure it seems a little discriminatory, but it's not like the Arizona police will hunt down, tackle and beat anyone who they suspect to be an illegal immigrant. If you're traveling and you don't bring that, then you've traveled stupidly. The article doesn't mention the law saying anything about Mexicans in particular, only people who are questioned if they're legally allowed to be there.
It's a shame this bill passed. My state was doing so well with the concealed carry and park carry bills, but we just had to fuck it up.

Arizona, a bunch of descendants of immigrants bitching about immigrants.
People have to put in mind crime in AZ is pretty bad and they have a lot of illegal immigrants. People always bitch about illegal immigrants but now that they actually do something they bitch about this law. Sure i don't like it, but at least the problem isn't being ignored. I don't care what the excuse is for being here, if you're illegal you're illegal. It is like trying to make excuses for robbing a bank because you're poor. Sure it is a bit expensive but if my mom can travel over 3,000 miles and get a legitimate green card and pay all the fees for it anyone can tbh. It's just a lot of people don't want to pay the fees. That being said, it should be anyone who's status might be in question, not just Mexican. What they're doing is stereotyping and racial profiling and that isn't right and using "protecting American citizens" is bullshit excuse.

This bill took a poor choice with it's racial discrimination, but something does need to be seriously done with illegal immigration.
This bill took a poor choice with it's racial discrimination, but something does need to be seriously done with illegal immigration.
Where is the bill so I can see the racial discrimination? I don't know where everyone is getting this from.
Where is the bill so I can see the racial discrimination? I don't know where everyone is getting this from.
Put two and two together.
Put two and two together.
The law just says authorities can search anyone whose legality of being there is questioned, what I gathered from the article. If cops only search Mexicans, then it's the cops racial profiling. What's the big deal about this anyway? It'd probably be too much work to get every single person's papers as they come into the country, this is a good way to cut down on illegal immigration. With the amount of illegal immigrants already there, they'll probably find a lot.

Our immigration policy is a mess, it's easy to see why the state of Arizona is full of illegal immigrants, it's because naturalization is a process many can't go through with. If Arizona really wanted to deal with illegal immigration they'd tell their Congressmen to pass reform.

Once you start profiling a race, it gets easier to dehumanize them and to start treating them with prejudice. I believe the thought: "That Latino person may be an illegal," is akin to "That black person might rob me." Enough people are racist and prejudiced already. We don't need the government making things worse.
Being dirt poor isn't an excuse to break the law and come into the country illegally.
That combined with the fact that our immigration laws are a mess is. Some laws are stupid as a fuck.
That combined with the fact that our immigration laws are a mess is. Some laws are stupid as a fuck.
Then why travel here anyway? For jobs?
"The more you tighten your grip, Arizona, the more immigrants will slip through your fingers."
Then why travel here anyway? For jobs?
Jobs, schools, health care. We've got the one-up on almost everything over Mexico or the other Central American countries.
Then why travel here anyway? For jobs?
Ever heard the saying "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." Things are bad enough in their homeland that they move here for a fresh chance, i understand that. But it doesn't excuse the fact they're breaking the law.
We need tougher immigration laws.
We need tougher immigration laws.
Yes, because that always solves the problem.

I easily understand the "protecting citizens part"
Arizona is the new Mississippi.
