Teen ‘Lured’ 8-Year-Old Santa Cruz Girl Into Apartment Before Killing Her, Dumping Body in Recycling
A teenage boy arrested in the death of an 8-year-old Santa Cruz girl who went missing over the weekend allegedly lured the child into his apartment before killing her and dumping her body in a recycling bin, police said Tuesday.
...
The boy was close to the bin when the body was found, and he was taken into custody almost immediately, the chief said. He was believed to have acted alone.
Vogel said investigators believed the girl was put into the bin, downstairs from the suspect’s apartment, shortly after she was killed.

It's been a shock to us all in Santa Cruz; it happened in a place you'd least expect it to, the Tannery, an art commune.
This kind of stuff short-circuits my brain. I can't even begin to understand how an event like this happens, or what rationale drives someone, even a child, to do something like this. There might be none, but that doesn't make it any easier to understand.
Nothing but love for the parents of the girl. This must be unreal for them.

Psychopathy aka lack of empathy and remorse

Psychopathy alone does not drive people to senseless murder.

No but coupled with a driver it can, which is what I mean, he probably didn't hate this girl to the point of wanting to kill her.
If he's a teen then he probably lured her to rape her, when she fought back or starts screaming, he killed her so he wouldn't get caught. He doesn't necessarily have to be a psycho, just a criminal who will do whatever he needs to do to avoid getting caught. He's a dumbass teen though, so he gets caught anyways.

You don't have to be a psychopath to murder people, but it helps!

What basis are you assuming that on
Charge him as an adult and let him rot.

Probably puberty.
Now its time to take out the trash.
What basis are you assuming that on
It's a no brainer. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, look up the case of Jenise Paulette Wright.

edit: By no brainer I mean there's nothing new under the sun. Every type of crime has already been done before, some have been done many times. So when a young girl is found dead, and a teen boy is taken into custody because of it, all you have to do is look back at all the previous times this has happened to make a good guess as to the motive.

Girl? More like a young woman, according to this photo..
Anyway shame that she's dead. And the guy's life is also ruined. Such a waste. Neither will live to see whatever the fuck they wanted to see.

I think he meant midget

No, I commented on her rich lipstick and her general "grown up" appearance in the photo-- or the attempt of it. That and condolences for the waste of two young lives.
Not sure how that's creepy. It's not like I explicitly expressed sexual attraction or some shit. (Which I don't personally feel or sign to.)
I know what you're trying to imply, but i don't think it's relevant.
Even with lipstick and a nice dress, she looks not even 14.
And young woman is like at least 18.
But young or not, it's sad that she had to have that happen to her.
Monday morning there were already posters EVERYWHERE. They were searching all night Sunday and all day Monday only to find her right there in the spot she went missing.
He will be tried as an adult. Minors can get life sentences but they have to have a possibility of parole.

Hopefully he'll get ten to fifteen years to think about what he did to that kid and some heavy duty counseling although that last part is optimistic.
I think it's overly optimistic to believe 'counseling' will help someone like this. He has at least three major broken pieces going on in his head. One, he preys on children. Two, he's a murderer. Three, he's a sexual predator.
What kind of counseling even begins to address any of that?

I'm not saying it won't be a massive challenge, or that it is definitely possible, but I wouldn't rule out counselling/therapy until qualified professionals say it is not currently possible.
Just keep him in prison for life, it's not like he will have any future outside of crime after such a crime and a decade in a cell. Rehabbing him would be a waste of money, money we could spend on someone who actually has a chance.
This is one of those cases where I honestly think he shouldn't be released back into society. For me, any kind of sexual battery and/or conduct that causes the death of another human is the point where I say "It's just not safe for this individual to be in the general population anymore."
Change is a thing, but nothing's going to bring that life back. I think about what that little girl must have been thinking and feeling in the moments before she died and it makes me feel sick.
Maybe not life in prison, but the rest of his life somewhere where he's not getting back out into the world and is being properly monitored with psychiatric care.
How do they know it was him other than the fact he was by the dumpster?

No one has detailed the evidence yet of course, but considering they are saying he lured her to HIS apartment, beat her, raped her, then killed her, unless he's some kind of criminal genius there is going to be a ton of DNA evidence everywhere. Her blood in his apartment? That would be all it takes right there.
Her belongings were in his apartment. Also her blood, because you know, he stabbed her too. He was at the scene looking all suspicious. They started questioning him and knew he was their suspect.
His lawyer is saying he needs a lot more time to go over the case. I guess the prosecution is ready to go already.
