Jasper, an eight-year-old German shepherd cross facing a possible death sentence by lethal injection, was sprung from the Coquitlam city pound by someone who cut the lock on the chain link fence leading to his kennel. Coquitlam RCMP and the lawyer representing the city said they are concerned about public safety and ask anyone who knows the dog’s whereabouts to contact police. “We haven’t been able to reach the owner. We’ve made several attempts,” said RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “Our concern is for public safety. This dog has had a history of being vicious and the fact is the dog is out there. Hopefully, the person who has Jasper will do the right thing and call police.” Jasper’s owner, 24-year-old Claire Olson, did not appear in Provincial Court this week regarding an application brought by the city to have Jasper destroyed. “He was taken sometime between Monday night when the shelter closed and Tuesday morning,” said city assistant solicitor Heather Bradfield. “I got a call at 7:30 a.m. that day. We were to continue Day 7 of the trial in Provincial Court in Port Coquitlam.” Bradfield said when Olson did not come to court on Tuesday or the following Wednesday morning, the judge adjourned the case until Oct. 27. “We are very concerned about public safety. We had several reports of incidents allegedly involving this dog,” she said, noting there were two biting incidents and a number of cases where Jasper acted aggressively in public. According to court documents filed to support the city’s application, Jasper had, without provocation, aggressively attacked a woman while she was walking her dog on the sidewalk in Coquitlam in February 2009. Jasper sounds like a dick, he attacked a woman for no reason? Needs to be put down.
Doesn't seem like he attacked another person without provocation, she had a dog with her.
Jasper sounds like a dick, he attacked a woman for no reason? Needs to be put down.
Dogs don't exactly have pre-emptive thoughts of aggression, like "Oh when I go out for a walk today I'm going to attack a dog if I see one", instead the go for a walk, they see the dog, and they attack it - and owners should be prepaired should their pet do this, if they know their pet's snappy keep a muzzle on them, keep them on a lead and take training classes to ensure these instances are minimized. Responsibility is with the owner, not blaming the dog for being a dog.
"to have Jasper destroyed." you mean killed, assholes
I have a feeling this "aggressive attack" was probably nothing more than a small bite.
Jasper is like the murderer in the movie that you feel bad for but you just saw him kill three people.
Jasper is like the murderer in the movie that you feel bad for but you just saw him kill three people.
Oh so that's what he did.. Could you tell me what lines to read between pretty please?
Oh so that's what he did.. Could you tell me what lines to read between pretty please?
yes, because he was implying specifically that this dog killed 3 people. [editline]02:12AM[/editline] basically what i'm trying to say here is you're stupid.

What I'm saying is that's it's more like Jasper is the guy in the movie you feel bad for because he was just wrongly sentenced to death.
Jasper the Friendly Ghost? Oh wait, wrong Jasper. I dunno what tho think of this.
Death Row Dogg?
Oh so that's what he did.. Could you tell me what lines to read between pretty please?
Are you handicapped

[editline]01:35PM[/editline] Also, once badly trained dog stays that way. Owner should get punished too, but there's no place for a dangerous dog.
Aren't there other ways of treating this situation besides lethal INJECTION? I mean yes he did bite someone but couldn't he be put through some sort of obedient training or at least given a chance before being put down. Just my two cents.

Looks like laddie has set on a long journey to home.

Owner should get punished too, but there's no place for a dangerous dog.
That isn't even a fair comparison, dogs are not human. Please provide source(s) that some animals, even when introduced into a better living environment or with added precautions (muzzle, which can make dogs less aggressive in some cases) that may positively affect their behavior, do not show improvement.
I can blame a dog for being a danger to humans all I want
Sure, but I hope you don't and never own a dog, since obviously you're not mature enough to take responsibility for the safety of you, your dog and other people and their pets. More so I hope you never have the opportunity to decide the fate of an animal because of an owner's irresponsibilities and/or negligence.
I love dogs but some of them sadly just need to be put down.
I've never met a dog that has been aggressive for no reason. It's usually the owners.
That dog is a bitch.
:unsmith:
If a dog attacks me i'm gonna stab it in the face
I can blame a dog for being a danger to humans all I want
Whenever my dog gets a little snippy and fights a dog or god forbid, hurts someone. It should be me who should be blamed, not my dog.
Who let the dogs out? Who,Who,Who,Who!
I can blame a dog for being a danger to humans all I want
You can blame the dog as much as you want, doesn't change the fact that it probably wasn't the dogs fault.
Well now if they ever find the dog, there's no doubt they'll kill him.
unless the dog mauled and/or killed a person, it shouldn't be put down in the first place. from what I've read, it seems like he just bit a person or two. nothing a little bit of Obedience School can fix.
