Cult of Luna are a band from Umeå, Sweden, formed in 1998. They play, uh.. Well I guess it could be called atmospheric sludge metal. Back in '98 after the split up of their former band, a hardcore punk band called Eclipse, the vocalist, Klas Rydberg and guitarist, Johannes Persson had a few ideas of how to "explore and develop" their music. After a few rehearsals and some member hunting, Cult of Luna had its first lineup consisting of Klas Rydberg (vocals), Johannes Persson (guitar/vocals), Magnus Lindberg (drums/sound engineering), Erik Olofsson (guitar) and Fredrik Renström (bass). Renström had to leave after a little while due to personal difficulties.
Their current line-up consists of Klas, Johannes, Magnus and Erik from the original line-up, along with Fredrik Kihlberg (guitar/vocals), Andreas Johansson (bass), Anders Teglund (keyboard/samples) and Thomas Hedlund (drums/percussion)

Cult of Luna recorded a demo consisting of two tracks in January 1999, a 7" vinyl split release with Switchblade in 2000, an self-titled EP in 2001, followed by their 5 full-length releases.

I kind of want to add a little wiki-copypasta about Eternal Kingdom, which I found quite interesting.
Cult of Luna rehearsed in an area that was once the site of a long demolished mental institution. Upon moving their practice space to a different spot on the same site, the band uncovered long forgotten relics of the hospital, including old apparatus and medical journals. Amongst the discovery was the diary of Holger Nilsson, a former inmate of the prison placed there after drowning his wife. The diary was titled 'Tales from the Eternal Kingdom'.
Digesting the diary, the band realised that they had stumbled upon the ramblings of a madman. In the diary, Nilsson blamed the death of his wife on the Näcken, a Swedish folk entity believed to be Satan. The diary created a completely imagined world in which owl men and tree men all contributed to a fantasy story that explained why Nilsson was innocent of the crime.
They have 3 official music videos, The Watchtower off The Beyond, Leave Me Here from Salvation, and Back to Chapel Town from Somewhere Along The Highway.

I liked 'Leave Me Here" and "Back to Chapel Town." The only thing I didn't like too much about the second one, was the vocals. It didn;t quite mesh too well with the slow, heavy riff that was being played. So, for the most part, I'd give them a seven out of ten. Thanks for showing me. I would like these two songs. ^_^
Sounded good until the vocals popped on in there
