Holly shit, it's literally in the middle of Moscow. I was walking that bridge like, three hours ago.
Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was shot to death in central Moscow late Friday, Interfax reports.
A fellow member of his party RPR-Parnas Ilya Yashin confirmed to RIA Novosti that Nemtsov had been shot.
The head of the Moscow police department is on the scene, according to TASS news agency.
Twitter user @Dobrokhotov tweeted that "On the Bolshoy Kamenniy bridge there are already lots of journalists."

Nemtsov was a former deputy prime minister in the Russian government under President Boris Yeltsin. At one point he was considered a likely presidential candidate. After Vladimir Putin became the country's president, Nemtsov actively criticized the administration and its policies.
Nemtsov was a member of the city council in Yaroslavl, near Moscow.
Moscow police are engaged in an active search for the shooter or shooters, who have not been identified.

Rest in peace, poor guy.
As for first impressions, shit, it could be literally everything - death of person of opposition one day prior scheduled opposition march?!
I mean, yeah, guy was relevant once upon a time... but this is just fucking brutal!
Shot on a bridge that leads toward red square... too "stagy" for being assasination by goverment, and too idiotic to be set up by somebody in opposition to gank up on his image as victim of repression. A fucking coincidence with attempted theft or armed lunatic? Rivalry at business? Guh i don't even know...
One thing for certain, man did not deserve such fate.
too "stagy" for being assasination by goverment
No such thing. This goes for any government ever
No such thing. This goes for any government ever
No, i mean it's just the place. It's literally a bridge that leads toward red square.
If guy was found in his flat dead, then it would make sence, cause then goverment woudl present version with burglars breaking in or something to shift blame.
But this, i mean, literally, the first thought you are thinking of, it is an assasination near friggen Kremlin gates.
I mean, in my personal opinion i think that people in charge of such things as liquidation of political rivalry at Russia got fuckton of expirience to do better.
clearly a message given that they didn't give him radioactive tea or something

that's kind of the point. Knowing them they can shift blame regardless and use it as a pretense for more security regarding the march. 2 birds with one stone.

Except the march was already kinda bummed cause it was moved away from center and half of parties refused to participate deeming it "useless". Left parties and few nationalists.
But now they sure gonna hop in.
Soo it fits to opposition's agenda aswell. Cause trust me, they are no better then goverment when doing their thingey.
Fuck, this murder fits everyone except this old politician guy. What a terrible fate.
I am still shocked about place though. This bridge... just why!?
holy fuck how the hell did he manage to kill this guy right next to one of the most hoppin places around moscow? scary as fuck
and it sure was a big coincidence that an russian oppositionist is shot dead before his big day amirite, next is yeltsins finance guy who was talking about the decline of the ruble
I really liked Nemtsov and he was one of the few remaining voices that could make a difference and people would listen to
Lots of people who opposed Putin found them selves bankrupt or dead, but usually not from something this bold.

Well lets be honest about one thing here though. Guy was more busy writing on snob.ru than talking from stage. that's Navalny's job when he's not under arrest.
Anyway, police tries to trace car now. And there is also witness girl who saw it. Wonder how this will play out.

Either way this make Russia look kinda bad
given how the opposition holds a minimal sway in government with KPRF and LDPR holding the largest portions of the Duma other than UR, they clearly aren't very powerful politically.
If they indeed whack this guy to further their own objectives, it points out that internal security is so bad that such a weak group of politicians could pull off such a stunt.
Makes the situation look anarchic.

idk but I bet if you wait long enough on the Lateiner bridge you'll see something cool too
It's nothing new that sometimes radical people of different political views kill those representing their opposing views. Russia has done some shit, but lifting the finger at every moment possible at the government is just ridiculous.

I know! This is why it's beyond fucked up.
Goverment would not eliminate him there since place frames them guilty on sight, opposition would have to be really bold to sent car driving through center of Moscow shooting at their fellow.
Could've been third option by any chance? he could have enemies regarding his other activities, something he was more busy with rather than picking up pieces of his political influence (really, guy was on back stage for long now.)
Either way, yes, police shat themselves, security in center of Moscow going to be sooooo tight this weekend, they love to show off "situation awarness" by placing cordons on every public place after crime was done. Soo fucking effective it is.

the location doesn't matter because everyone else is just going to go "no it's too obvious" too
A few weeks ago Nemtsov literally said that he's afraid that Putin might kill him
My guess would be someone politically opposed to him. Government or not. It may be too risky for a government assassination but it could be a Putin supporter wanting him dead. Wouldn't be a bit shocked if it was a government assassination, though.

Oh come on, now this is something all russian opposition guys said every two years.
This is hardly an argument. Not to mention that Nemtsov's political weight has droped alot since his times in goverment. Even Hodorkovsky would have more of Putin's attention than "that one old ex-minister".
Soo, who do you think they are going to catch/present to public as suspects? This is to russian users btw -
islamists? Rival gang that has ties with Nemtsov's business? Drunk Chechen wedding? UKRANIAN CANNIBALS?
Really sucks he died, this will probably draw more people towards the opposition though

Wich is sad cause i'd rather be drafted to army duty at polar cap than current opposition.
They suck big time. Not regional based, not diverse in their methods, and hardly capable at replacement of goverment roles.
To be honest, i'd rather have this played out against our opposition. To smack Navalny and co. away from political arena once and for all, soo perhabs some fresh faces that actually have real history, real grip and faith in their work would surface to take vacant spot instead of those who merely pretend to be "of the people" and care about change.
I don't like our goverment, but i hate those who propose revolution without having resources or atleast motivation to sustain a functional country after one even more.
Not saying that if goverment really guilty they should go away with it thought. Atleast they'd be obliged to find scapegoat among their ranks than the others.
western lizard jew false flag trying to stage a maidan in russia

I don't know too much about what is going on in Russia at the moment other than what Putin does, but what you say does make a lot of sense.
I am not saying Russia needs to specifically be like MURRICA, but looking at the history of Russia it seems like you guys have had it rough as far as leadership and government is concerned for a long ass time. I wouldn't doubt at whatever revolutionary groups there are, they couldn't be too much better.
With the way Putin is posturing Russia at the moment it would be little surprise if it were his doing in one way or another.

Well, yes it kinda like this if you want - "Russia is soo bad, even alternative for current goverment is worse than goverment." And it kinda historical too.
Except for Peter I.

That guy rocked big time.
karimatrix you have a wonderful way of convincing yourself that you live in pleasant company, I wish I could dream like you can.

expecting a president of big ass country to carry out assasination order of political figure prior big opposition event? That would not be a smart thing to do.
And whatever ya think, dumb people don't make it to high position at goverment here. This is no America.

Cause i try to think rational? And what company?
Really, for things like internal politics you gotta sway away thinking about our goverment being just one giant cyborg head of Putin. Or that opposition are all paladins and shit.
Or maybe you could say to yourself "Maybe i am not soo good about understaning political clusterfuck inside Russia, just because i heard about their foreign policy in recent times. Or maybe cause i am not living there in a first place".

I have to say I'm inclined to agree with this. People like Putin don't get the power they have without a lot of support behind them; the way that a lot of media has portrayed Russia's political situation as an absolute dictatorship is in all likelihood quite inaccurate.
That's not to say that it's not clearly an autocracy with Putin at the top - just that to me, it's clearly less monolithic than people seem to believe. Hell, even North Korea has internal division.

let me grab my conspiracy hat and matching cape here for a moment...
now i'm a simple man, and i'll be the first to admit i don't pretend to know anything about politics of my own country, let alone another, with completely different cultures...
but if an opposition politician is straight up shot dead in the middle of a major landmark a day before his pre-scheduled match
and your (or someone elses) first instinct is to say :
"too "stagy" for being assassinated by the government"
that's a fucking perfect way to get away with it.
it is the perfect double bluff
The Russian government killed this man.

Why too stagy?
How about this - he's was not worth the fuss.
Saying in interview that he's scared that Putin grim reaper will come for him does not authomatically make him a target. It makes him just another face in a crowd of opposition and their loud mouths.
Just as i remarked previously - Nemtsov WAS relevant once upon a time. But he was not recently. He became old politician detached from goverment's feeding straw and attempted to warm in beams of Navalny's fame during his rise. He's no opponent, no real threat that needs such a big set up for a kill. And, i know that might sound cinical as shit - he'll get far more attention from being dead, than living.

Putin killed him as a tactic to scare the opposition in general. Such a critic would not be missed too much but it would get the message across without causing too much stir.

Fuck Putin and karimatrix is a shill.
