Meet Mark Meadows, the small time Congressman from NC who will bring down America
Washington (CNN) -- One of the most prominent developers of the plan that could shut the government down is a little-known congressman who has been in office only eight months.
This newly elected tea party aligned lawmaker downplays his position, saying he has relatively little influence. But in reality, his efforts have pushed Washington to the brink.
At issue is the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Some Republicans are demanding that it be dismantled -- or at the very least delayed - and they think the best way to do that is attach it to a must-pass bill to fund the government.
The idea has rankled Washington for more than a week and exposed fissures in the Republican Party.
So who is the lawmaker quietly influencing the debate?
Sen. Ted Cruz, who staged a 21-hour talk-a-thon on the Senate floor disparaging Obamacare, would be a good guess. But it would be wrong.
The answer? Mark Meadows, who represents the western part of North Carolina and has wielded his influence behind the bright lights of the television cameras and the hot microphones.
I'm sick of this stupid idea. "Agree with us or we'll shut down the government." That's not how fucking democracy is supposed to work.
For him, getting rid of Obamacare is priority No. 1. "[T]o ignore that would be to ignore our duty to represent the people back home," he said.
I simply don't get it.
But what if the people back home got sick and can't afford going to the hospital?

that's how it will work because we are essentially powerless to stop them from doing it.

second american civil war coming right up next at 11 only on FOX
Ahahah, politicians trying to hold the government for ransom
Ahahah, politicians trying to hold the government for ransom
That's pretty much it. They won't get in much trouble for it either as they aren't entirely affected by the shutdown. Its horseshit that this sort of thing can happen. This is the kind of stuff where you'd have some kind of intervention to seize power from both sides until someone with a cool head comes in and takes over or whatever. Eh, what can you do though?
I simply don't get it.

Wow like that matters, only healthy people in Republican America, everyone else can fuck off.

the republican party, driven insane by racism and money from the insurance industry, now will stop at nothing less than the complete dissolution of the executive branch. their entire party platform, at this point, is just "oppose obama in everything he does, ignoring any reason or grounding in reality"

Hasn't that always been the case, though?
Hasn't that always been the case, though?
I'm not so sure about the "driven insane by racism and money from the insurance industry" drivel, but by and large the Republican party has been mostly responsible for the meaningless babbling in Congress, yes.

I imagine it's possible that the, let me reiterate, insane and deluded vitriol directed towards the most moderate, milquetoast president we've had since before "liberal" and "conservative" acquired their current meanings could have a different reason but I sure as hell can't see one.

Maybe they just don't like the way he dresses...

Do you guys even know what is actually in "Obamacare"? Forcing people to get health insurance, that's what, if you don't get it, then you get fucking fined, if you can't or don't pay the fine, then it's off to jail with your ass. It's gonna fuck up poor(but not too poor) families really badly.

People have been flinging shit at the president since 1776. I blame the media, not the party.

thbbt. so people have to buy health insurance.
you know who is really getting screwed over? People who, in the current model of american healthcare, are entirely ineligible for health insruance because of pre-existing conditions. The current system where the price for having a serious medical problem while not being insured is to be thrust thousands, possibly millions of dollars into debt is virtually a crime against humanity and any system which stops that, however slapdash and ceded to the interests of insurers, has to be an improvement

Fox news is literally just the vehicle for republican party interests, though. The money, be it to candidates or to media outlets, all flows from the same source.

Sure, but without a vehicle for angry men to cry about stupid things, there is nowhere for the Republican party to go. It's almost a bad cult in that regard.
I simply don't get it.

The people who can't afford that aren't the people that he's working for.
I simply don't get it.

Sadly, if that were true I don't think he would have been voted into office.

but i honestly dont see how this contradicts my blaming the current state of the republican party on "racism, industry money, and the pills they take for their ancient boners"

People, particularly people on FP, like to whine incessantly about da LIEberal media but I think the fact that people only ever talk about the mandate, a small part of the overall ACA reforms, is a major victory for conservative media.
Also you are completely wrong.
but i honestly dont see how this contradicts my blaming the current state of the republican party on "racism, industry money, and the pills they take for their ancient boners"
It's childish. Besides, there's nothing good that comes out of categorizing an entire political party. There are plenty reasonable Republicans that get lumped together with the crazies.
I imagine it's possible that the, let me reiterate, insane and deluded vitriol directed towards the most moderate, milquetoast president we've had since before "liberal" and "conservative" acquired their current meanings could have a different reason but I sure as hell can't see one.

Their actions are selfish, perhaps even psychopathic, but it's hardly insane. A lot of the weaker republican seats aren't being threatened by democrats, but rather more extreme republicans. So to protect their seat they close the ideological gap between them and their opponent, and if the rest of the country takes a plunge, so be it.
Sadly, if that were true I don't think he would have been voted into office.
Wouldn't be the first time people have voted against their actual interests because the candidate speaking is nice, probably white, and shares their good christian values (ignoring the fact that christian values are biblically pretty damn socialist, but whatever, religious people not making sense is nothing new)
It's childish. Besides, there's nothing good that comes out of categorizing an entire political party. There are plenty reasonable Republicans that get lumped together with the crazies.
I see no reason why the Republican party platform or the majority of Republicans who consistently vote according to it can't be criticized.
As for reasonable Republicans, name three.
As for reasonable Republicans, name three.
You can put the hook out there, but I'm not going to bite. What I consider reasonable and what you consider reasonable are two different things.
I hate Obamacare, but not as much as I hate the current system. Let's just leave it at that.
You can put the hook out there, but I'm not going to bite. What I consider reasonable and what you consider reasonable are two different things.
What's the point of asking other people to defend a political party or it's members if you can't even think of reasons to do so on your own?
What's the point of asking other people to defend a political party or it's members if you can't even think of reasons to do so on your own?
Did I ask anyone to defend any political parties?
Did I ask anyone to defend any political parties?
You are telling other people not to criticize the GOP under the guise of "generalizing" because there are reasonable Republicans. You can't name any reasonable Republicans so the onus is placed on others.
You are telling other people not to criticize the GOP under the guise of "generalizing".
i think he's trying to say "republican =/= republican party leadership"
