Britain’s employment minister said she would introduce new regulations to make Jews who refuse to work on Shabbat eligible for welfare benefits.
Employment Minister Esther McVey and Jobcentre National Director Neil Couling have told the Jewish employment charity JCom that rules would be “tweaked” to end the practice of denying job seekers’ allowance to observant Jews, The Jewish Chronicle of London reported Friday.
The Department for Work and Pensions confirmed that there had been 50 cases of people from different religions being denied unemployment benefits because the claimants’ religious observance interfered with their ability to work, the Chronicle reported.
I'm going to start a religion that says May to March are holy months so I can only work in April.
Breaking news: Judaism in Britain increases by 500%

oy vey
Why should they get benefits for refusing to work on a day that is completely unrelated to the UK and only due to their own religion? Choosing your religion over your job is your own goddamn choice. The taxpayer shouldn't have to pay for it.
And these people claim they're worth an 11% pay rise? fuck off.
What about us Jedi's?
I'm starting to think parliament is a bunch of stuck up sith lords myself.
We shouldn't adapt to others cultures they adapt to ours or fuck off.
Why is it that faith somehow resides beyond normal thoughts and opinions? Why is it that you can get extra benefits simply because you subscribe to a major religion? When you think about it, it's quite absurd.
Why would they get Job Seeker's Allowance for refusing to work during a holy time? They aren't seeking jobs, they're explicitly doing the opposite.
wow this thread is literally filled to the brim with antisemites.

Only Sith deal in absolutes.
Oh god Esther McVey? She's the MP of the constituency right next to mine, and voted against the gay marriage thing.

we should be aiming to hit a middlegrounds in that respect. saying 'you adapt our culture completely or fuck off' is ignorant

I haven't seen any posts that say Jews in particular can't go along with this; every post has spoken on religions in general.

but the point is that christians already get their day recognized generally.

And which one is that?
Easter, there is the Jewish Passover during the same time.
Christmas? Depends on the secular time of December 25th or not, but Hanukkah can reside on the same time, but it's date is much more fluid due to the calender system being a 3 year rotation cycle with 12-13 months. And Christmas is now pretty much also a secular holiday.
Arent Jews supposed to be rich though?
I love how everyone in this thread is trying to be as edgy as possible instead of conducting perhaps a better solution. Personally, I think that as long as all workers work for the same amount of days, it really doesn't matter. If a worker usually works Monday through Friday, then have the Jewish person work Sunday through Thursday. This doesn't make anyone work harder than the other, it's just a change in schedule for the people who request it. It's really not that big of a deal.
The only people who are actually going to oppose this are simply the 'rebellious teenagers' who's parents failed to raise them properly.

Yes. Jewish people come out of their mother's womb with a huge sack of gold coins

The difference is most everyone gets Sunday off
Yes. Jewish people come out of their mother's womb with a huge sack of gold coins
All those stories about leprechauns? Yeah, those were just midgets who stole a Jews gold when he popped out of the womb.
The rainbow thing came from Noah's Arc, in which Mother Earth's water broke and then receded. It was marked by a rainbow, and so from then on, all Jewish women have a rainbow that gushes forth from their vagina shortly after they go into labor.

Jews work Sunday instead of Friday. Problem solved.

exactly. christians get institutional preferential treatment.

That's because many businesses that are in the UK and the US were started by Christians, and therefore they gave their employees their holy day off. If the company was started by Jews, and the owner wanted to make Friday the day off, then he could do that. With the government, it's the same deal. It was started by Christians, and so it goes by their holidays.

How has any fucking post been antisemetic
I'm beginning to think that you're either an extremely elaborate troll, or just too fucking stupid to do anything but post bullshit all the time
British minister seeks to end welfare discrimination towards Jews.
That's not discrimination, That's called not paying someone for not working when they should be working. You wanna take off this then it's your call, but getting welfare for it is just wasteful.
