You know how on movies, fantasy games and all that, they always seem to go "SSCCCHLLLLIIIINGGGG" when drawn. Well, how should I put it. Not really. Also, little bonus for Katana fanboys :v: I highly recommend his other videos
Uuuuuh... Hmmm. Videos.
I fucking love this guy, but this belongs in the video section.
I find it both amusing and annoying when twats go 'THE KATANA COULD SLICE THROUGH A TANK, IT WAS THE BEST SWORD EVER, I BOUGHT ONE AND ITS AMAZING' and then they dont accept logic no matter how you explain to them and present facts.
movies were NEVER like real life :v:
I fucking love this guy, but this belongs in the video section.
Snap, didn't notice that section in the Bullshit section... Uhh.. mods, please be gentle :ohdear:
There was a thread a while back on that katana video.
STOP THE FUCKING PRESSES.... you mean hollywood movies aren't realistic depictions of real life?!?! My life is over.
The "SSCCCHLLLLIIIINGGGG" sounds pretty damn cool though.
this guy reminds me of this dude who works at my local gamestop he's pretty chill
Hey, another fan on Lindybeige! I thought I was the only guy here who had seen his videos.
i thought this was about drawing swords
This guy is awesome
He had me at "Katana-Plonkers"
You know, the title made me think of this for some fucked up reason Anyways yeah the stereotypical SCHLINNNG sounds pretty threatening so I guess that's the reason it's used in movies. This guy is funny. I oughta check out the rest of his videos.
Been following him for ages, one thing that I like is that he doesn't just blindly follow historically (vases, painting etc etc) but with a modicum of actual sense rather than repeating by rote.
I collect swords, when I draw my sabre it occasionally makes a schlinnng sound. My shortsword makes a metallic ringing sound. I also have a katana, simply because they're cool swords and a staple in any respectable collection.
Then you're using a Scabbard that has metal in it, which isn't actually correct (he goes over it in the video)
Yeah, the guts are lined with metal. It's a 1907 reproduction of a Civil War era Confederate ceremonial sabre, it's been restored three times since it was made. :v: The original blade actually cracked and broke in the 90s and had to be replaced, so it's not fully original anymore except for the brasswork on the hilt.
Well, no shit, OP. The sound is there in the movies because it works, and people expect to hear it. Same as the the audible 'sheen' heard simply when a sharp object is seen in a movie.
Does it matter?
I dont give a fuck, when ever i draw my invisible sword im still making that "shling" noise
I have a katana myself, and even I have to agree with him.
Hell yeah, swords! I had a daggar at one point that hung on my wall and It was just nice to look at it and think, "people killed people with these." Wait until we hang guns and think the same thing, when we're using laser rifles.
I was expecting a lesson in how to improve artistic abilities regarding sharp objects. Despite that not being the case, he did - however - draw my attention.
No shit, it depends on the sheath you have. My vietnam era machete has a sheath that has a whetstone built into the sheath, so when you draw or holster it, it makes a nice sound. It stays sharper than hell 24/7 no matter what, though.

This guy's vids are all interesting.
I love this guy's videos.
