Data from Net Applications shows that Windows 8 is less popular than Windows Vista, the operating system that proved unpopular with the enthusiast audience.
Windows 8 usage uptake has slipped behind Vista’s in the same point in its release. Windows 8 online usage share is around 1.6% of all Windows PC’s which is less than the 2.2% share that Windows Vista commanded at the same two month mark after release.
Net Applications monitor operating system usage by recording OS version for around 40,000 sites it monitors for clients.
The slowdown for Windows 8 adoption is a bad sign for Microsoft who experienced great success with the release of Windows 7.
Data was measured up to the 22nd of December, so there is still time by the end of the month for Windows 8 to claim a higher percentage of the user base.
This data reaffirms previous statistics posted by organisations such as the NPD group. They said in the four weeks surrounding Windows 8 Oct 26 debut that 21% fewer PCs were sold to U.S. consumers than during the same period in 2011.
The New York Times have also said that U.S. consumer sales of Windows machines from late October through to the first week of December are down 13% compared to the same period a year previous.
Really? I know it has those tiles, but my last OS was Vista and that was terrible!
Okay. What are people actually disagreeing? That Vista was bad? It was/is!
I don't get it, Vista was terribly optimised and kept crashing, at least for me. Windows 8 hasn't crashed for me once yet, and it boots up incredibly fast, I like the aesthetics and it has a great upgrade to the Task Manager.
Sure I barely use the start menu, only to search for programmes, but there's a small programme to readd the Start button so there's no real issue. Matter of opinion, of course, but definately better than Vista for me. Better than 7 - optimised, yeah, but not much else. Could have done without the start button removal, though.
Maybe that's because people don't want windows 7 with tablet tiles.
Windows 8 isn't even that bad to be fair, although I can see it has more potential on a tablet device or a touch-screen laptop. I still prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8 but its definitely not as terrible as Vista...
Its the tiles thing that people dont like. Vista was terrible but got fixed up later on but still not as near a great as Windows 7

Fix it? There is already 5 or 6 fixes out there.
I think it's also partially due to the reason that people don't want to upgrade an OS every 2-3 years. I mean look how long it took people to change over from XP to 7 (many still haven't either).
I'm sure a lot of it is mostly that Windows 7 was so good, that less people are anxious to upgrade compared to when W7 was launched after Vista.
That's my reason at least.
It's not that Windows 8 is bad, it's just pointless if you already have 7..

you can still see school pcs with xp and ie6
You don't have to use the tiles. The start screen is 200x better than the start menu, in every possible way. It looks so much better aesthetically, and the whole OS as a whole runs leaps and bounds better than Windows 7.
But no. People don't seem to accept change. Windows 8 is nothing like Vista was, maybe it'll just take time for people to realise.
Hey, here come the people who think other people aren't entitled to an opinion!

Windows 8 seems a lot like Vista, but only because it seems to be an experiment; Vista was the experiment for Aero and full Windows NT migration. Windows 7 perfected these features and it's a great OS. I think that Windows 8 will be the same; Windows 9 or whatever they call it will probably be a much better operating system.
People are afraid of change and this chart proves it.

Should not need to use 'fixes' in the first place.
Using Windows 8 reminds me how much I never use the Start Menu, and how ugly it used to be.
The Start Menu shouldn't even be an argument when it comes to 8.

I would be more productive with Vista than with 8, and that says a lot.

not going to happen

We shouldn't have to fix it.

Or change for the sake of change.
I have no problems with windows 8
I like 8, and having gotten use to the new system, I can honestly say I'm enjoying it immensely. It's faster, cleaner, sharper, and I've had no issues with crashing or compatibility. Plus, at the price I got it, it was a steal. Other than the adjustments you have to get used to with the new system, there really isn't much people say against 8, save aesthetics, which I don't see as a huge issue as I spend most of my time on the Desktop and use Metro as a start menu just as you're supposed to.
People need to give it a chance, take the time to learn how to use it, and you'll find it's a nice OS that works well and better than previous versions in terms of speed, optimization, and advancements, if you're actually willing to go in and learn the differences. I've seen no decline in productivity, and I'm just as able, if not more able, to get work done in a timely manner, than with Vista or Win7.
We shouldn't have to fix it.
there's no reason to 'fix' anything you can just press the damn windows key, it's the same fucking thing as the start menu
There's nothing wrong with Metro. It's a full screen Start Menu and its leaps faster and more organized and easier to use than the old cluttered system.
It took years before W7 was the leading OS. I remember when a lot of programs started dropping support for XP finally the people would switch. Until we see developers discontinue support for W7, W8 will not be used as often.
the start function on windows 8 is just... monsterous

Yeah, for you maybe. But I use the start menu a whole lot.

Only reason I ever upgraded from XP was because I won Vista Ultimate from that dumb windows live website where you play flash games for points to redeem for microsoft products. It's both too expensive and upgrades are too numerous for someone like me (broke) to afford, and unless I'm forced to upgrade such as when a majority of my interests drop OS support I'll probably stay with Vista for a while.
