Her body was never found. She was last seen leaving a bar with Dutchman Joran Van der Sloot, who this week pleaded guilty in a separate case to the death of a young woman in Peru. Mr Van der Sloot, 24, also faces US charges of extortion in Alabama. At a hearing attended by Holloway's divorced parents, Judge Alan King signed an order declaring the woman dead. The declaration was the result of a petition filed by Holloway's father. David Holloway told the judge that he believed his daughter was dead. "We've been dealing with her death for the last six and a half years," he said. He added that he wanted to end payments for Holloway's medical insurance and use her $2,000 college fund to help her brother. Mr Holloway's lawyer told the judge that there was no evidence to suggest that the missing woman was still alive. Exhaustive searches, extensive media attention and offers of rewards had not led to any new information about the case, he said. Never chargedMr Van der Sloot was arrested but never charged in connection with Holloway's disappearance. In Peru, he entered a guilty plea on Wednesday over the death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, a day before the Alabama hearing. Flores died five years to the day after Holloway vanished, and Mr Van der Sloot told police he killed Flores after she had used his laptop and learned of his connection to the Holloway case. In Alabama, Mr Van der Sloot faces federal charges of extortion. He is accused of taking $25,000 from Beth Holloway, the missing woman's mother, in exchange for information regarding the whereabouts of Holloway's body. Prosecutors say the money was paid but no information was revealed.[/release] http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16539916 There's still a glimpse of hope that she'll return alive.
Watching movies like 2008's Taken gave me a new perspective in missing cases such as these. Here's to my prayers this ends in a good note, if not on a peaceful one. This really bites
This happened on an island next to mine. Shes dead.
This shit happens hundreds of times in a day. People are abducted, trafficked, killed, go missing, wind up dead, whatever, everywhere. All the time. This is important to the family, but I don't see how this has any relevance to most the world, or most people. I don't really see why this is news.
Internet hardass, doesn't care about the toils of those beneath him
he does have a point, i'm sure dozens of people in third world countries are abducted, raped and tortured - they don't get any news headlines

Whatever the news, be it American or other countries, at least have a heart and be sympathetic about the plight. A person was killed but the body has never been found, imagine the sorrows of the family.
Americans care about Americans.
Understandable.
As much as I hope she's still alive, by now, it's more likely that she's dead if anything.
At least the parents no longer have to worry about whether she's OK or not.
At least the parents no longer have to worry about whether she's OK or not.
Yes, they just have to think about their dead daughter that they haven't seen in seven years.
He's facing up to 30 years in prison in Peru now. But he confessed so there will be a reduction. Pretty sure he killed both of them really.

They run stories of people being kidnapped, raped, murdered, missing, etc. for the shock and outrage factor and blow the story way out of proportion in an attempt to get people to watch their channel. Is it sad that people are kidnapped, raped, murdered, missing, etc. all over the world every hour of every day? Of course. Should we take 12 hours out of our day watching some mindless loop of it on CNN that will have almost no effect on the outcome of said person? No. The only time I ever watch CNN or some other liberal channel is while out eating somewhere, and they run these stories ALL the time. From years of seeing crap like that, I'm going to guess maybe 2 in 1000 stories they run actually turns up the person alive, the rest are toes up on a morgue slab or never found.
This happened on an island next to mine. Shes dead.
How could you possibly know this? [editline]13th January 2012[/editline] Unless...
When are they going to announce Madeline Mccann is dead?

[editline]13th January 2012[/editline]
When are they going to announce Madeline Mccann is dead?
I think the general belief is that she was kidnapped by paedos or something.
Yes, they just have to think about their dead daughter that they haven't seen in seven years.
Often times closure is better than nothing.
I must admit I often wonder what makes this person different from another person.
Well it's that this case got a lot of attention (in The Netherlands) because he pretty much admitted to a friend on a hidden camera that she 'suddenly died' and that he and a friend dumped the body in the sea. So I think that the thing with this all was that it wasn't the girl, but it was that even though it was clear he did it, he didn't get charged for murder. This news article is just to see that the parents of Natalee gave up (and for the reasons stated in the article)
blonde hair blue eyes whoaauttt?
Didn't the moron admit, on camera, that he pretty much tied her to an anchor and dumped her into the ocean because he thought she had died from the big fat daterape drug he slipped her
Nancy Grace is going to throw a shit fit.
Hypocrisy at it's best. You all should remember how Facepunch reacted to the Casey Anthony thing. I'm not being a hardass or insensitive. Like I said- i's important to the family, but it has no significance to the population- and that's what news is- information that is significant to the population that reads it. This doesn't need to be nation-wide, or international, news. It's a common occurrence- even in America, people go missing abroad or even at home all the time, and they don't get any notice. If you folks aren't willing to dissect an argument or a statement and instead take everything I said and crunch it down to a reaction image or chalking it up to an internet hardass, then maybe you should quit playing strawman and develop an opinion that doesn't involve you simplifying or outright ignoring what I said.
Internet hardass, doesn't care about the toils of those beneath him
Also what the fuck? Beneath me? Why are you implying that she is beneath me, or anyone is beneath me? MY concern is that these kinds of stories distract us from things that could use attention, like, oh, I don't know, wars, revolutions, famine and disease, the poor, unemployed, etc. This is the most perfect example that I've ever seen of someone who can't think for themselves enough to respond to something, so they put words in my mouth, make shit up, demonize me, and call it good.
Have a heart man, just because this kind of thing apparently happens all the time doesn't mean you should just ignore it. No, not at all.
I'd say he has more of a heart than you because he gives a shit about everyone, not just people in the news.
Pretty White Woman syndrome. If this were a man, or if she were a racial minority, or if she was still a white woman but not attractive in the least she'd get no more than a sentence in some newspaper.
I go to medical school here in Aruba, everyone I know thinks I'm gonna get kidnapped by some random person too. Aruba is actually a pretty safe place, the 2 girls that went missing on this island went missing due to people outside of Aruba, not people who live here.
