I thknk you need an x360 conrroller to play co op. When I entered that coop thing, it said 'press (a) to join the game' or something

No it isn't, it's 2 players onscreen at once. One player via 360 controller, one player via keyboard and mouse.

Co-op isn't co-op if only 1 player is on the screen at once, silly! You're referring to multiplayer versus.
