A 24-year-old man has been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to attacking customers in a Hull pub with a chainsaw.
Dean Dinnen launched the assault at the Endyke public house, north Hull in August 2011, after being thrown out for smoking on the premises.
He was overpowered by customers, one of whom received injuries to his arm during the incident.
Dinnen was later arrested by armed police officers.
Kelly Wilds, who was drinking in the pub with friends, said people feared for their lives.
"We all wondered who'd been hurt because nobody really knew anything at the time," she said.
"People was ushering us out. Somebody picked a chair up to try and disarm him, but he just chopped it in half basically.
"All the women were absolutely terrified. God knows what would have happened if they hadn't disarmed him."
Det Con Richard Mills, from Humberside Police, said the consequences of Dinnen's actions could have been much worse.
"It could have been to any end of the scale. A weapon such as that knows no boundaries - anything it touches it will cut.
"With the force used, there could have been a number of people killed, without any doubt."
Dinnen was jailed at Hull Crown Court.

This is why they need to rethink that Smoking ban and ways to get around it, i'm not a smoker but i can see why he was pissed off, it's cold out and all he really wanted to do was smoke and have a pint, i don't agree on what he did and feel he went overboard but i can see why he did it.

Yeah, it's sort of awesome how quickly everyone banded together to subdue the crazy fucker.
Only three years, but oh well i'm sure he learned his lesson after getting the shit kicked out of him with chairs.

Oh I must have missed the scene at the start of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre where the guy was chucked out of a pub for smoking
the guy with the trashcan
hahah

Or he could obey the law and go smoke outside, I don't like to breath in other peoples smoke which can actually harm me via second hand in such a compact area. It also encourages people to cut down or quit altogether if they realize smoking in general is a stupid habit that will end up killing them and forces them to feed their addiction in horrible conditions. At the end of the day smokers smoke something that can effect others around them and not just themselves and if that's the case I'd rather they do it in a well ventilated area i.e - outside. Pubs can build outside roofs for their customers to stand under.

As someone who has experienced just how addictive cigarettes are (I was a heavy smoker who just quit a month or so ago), I can honestly say the craving never made me want to, you know, attack people with a chainsaw. Cravings suck, but you learn to deal with them and shut up.
It's a shame this pub is less then a mile to get to for me.
Hah, at the end there's a crowd excitedly chasing him with chairs.

Are you mad? Some of us want freedom from fucking cigarettes and public places shouldn't be subject to this filth.
lmao the video is gold
Even with a chainsaw, you aren't safe in Hull.

But really this guy is an idiot, getting beaten with chairs is the least he deserved.
Hull

I'm an arse and I don't care.
It's a miracle nobody got seriously hurt considering how close quarters it was inside that pub.
NEVER interrupt a man and his pint, especially in Hull!
Was reading about this story in the papers. Apparently someone had their arm sliced into by the chainsaw...
getting killed by a chainsaw ain't a pretty look, since I saw that execution video :pwn:

Creepy looking guy.
Though I have to wonder why his first thought was a chainsaw. It's a very impractical weapon, considering it'll just as soon lop your legs off as do the same to anyone else.

I'm also pretty sure he didn't mean to harm anyone, he just waved it in front of people. He didn't even attack anyone after they threw the first chair.
That bad ass tackle

It looks like he was just trying to scare them, still a stupid move.

He look pretty normal other than the black eye.
