A HEROIC guide dog was hit by a car – while saving his blind owner’s life.Four-year-old golden retriever Kent spotted the vehicle heading for Robert Ferguson, 57, on a busy town centre road.
The brave pooch pulled hard on his harness and hauled Robert out of the way – before taking the full impact himself.
Miraculously, Kent was not seriously hurt. Robert, who fell and hit his head on the pavement, needed 19 stitches.
Robert, who was born blind with detached retinas, said yesterday:
“Kent saved my life.
“The car came out of nowhere but he saw it and made sure he pulled me out of the way.
“If it wasn’t for him, I could have died. Without Kent I would have difficulty getting by.
“I take him everywhere with me.
“I just want people to know how valuable guide dogs are to people like me.
“Kent is not only a working dog, but when we are at home, he’s my pal.”
Robert was returning from shops near his home in Ayr in January when he stopped at the kerb before crossing a main road.
He listened carefully and, not hearing any vehicles, gave Kent the signal to lead him across.
The pair had almost crossed when Kent heard the car approaching.
He immediately dragged Robert out of harm’s way but was hit when the car braked hard.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and Robert was taken to hospital where he was given 19 stitches in a head wound.
The same paramedics also took Kent to a vet for emergency X-rays. Luckily, he only had internal bruising.
Brave Kent was back leading Robert round the streets of Ayr within a week. Robert said: “I rely a lot on my ears so I have good hearing and there were no cars coming when we stopped at the kerb.
“There was no wind or rain.
“It doesn’t take me any longer to cross the road than anyone else.
“I was wearing a light-coloured jacket and Kent had on his reflective harness so I don’t know how the driver didn’t see us.
“Kent is my first guide dog. I’ve had him since 2009.
“I was worried about him after the accident but we are now both absolutely fine.
“Some guide dogs become distressed after an accident and have to be retired. But experts from the Guide Dogs For the Blind Association came down to have a look and it doesn’t seem to have affected him.
“I walked him past the site of the accident and he never reacted at all.
“He’s such a good dog and so placid. Guide dogs are very expensive to train and it is very important that they get the funding they need.
“Without them, people like me would be lost.”
The driver of the car, a 54-year-old woman, was found guilty at Ayr Sheriff Court this week of driving without due care and consideration.
She was fined £250 and had three penalty points added to her licence.

The edge of a pavement.
Wait, how did the dog pull him out of the way and still get hit by the car?

Why don't people reeeeeaddd the articles, he probably pulled on the harness but was still in the car's path.
Glad the dog survived, deserves a medal!
Wait, how did the dog pull him out of the way and still get hit by the car?
Dog yanked him so hard he flew past the dog and hit the curb. Would've probably had time to run back and save himself, but then the owner would be hit.

That doesn't explaaaaain how it happened.

I still really can't see how this works
The dog pulled him out of the way of the car, why would the dog then be in the path of the car? Unless the dog pulled him across the road so hard he flew to the other curb.....I can't see that happening

I can. Tie something to a rope and yank it real hard, see what happens. Golden retrievers are strong and could probably do that with a person.
What a good dog.

Perhaps there was some sort of pulley system in place, and the dog had to go in the opposite direction.

Imagine the dog yanked hard, the owner stumbles fast past where the dog has rooted himself to pull so the dog's behind the owner and gets hit by a car.
He looks so adorable! :D
Who cares about some stupid mutt.
For every story of this shit there would be a million where it would just watch and do nothing.
What is with man kinds obsession with such a stupid shallow animal?

Here. Have some stories of dogs saving their owners this week alone, sometimes sacrificing themselves:

I take it you've never owned a dog?

I suppose this makes sense
Mac's explanation was basically the same but for some reason with his I imagined a person flying through the air which didn't make sense to me :v:

Have i? no.
Why would someone volunteer to own such an inconvienent animal, unless they are the typical passive agressive dog owner that cant connect with any actual human, and a dog is the only person they can give orders to. Very shallow and pathetic.

"For every story of this shit there would be a million where it would just watch and do nothing." so this makes this story kinda special, don't you think?
"Who cares about some stupid mutt." clearly this one wasn't so stupid...?
You're contradicting yourself...make sure you're wiser than the mutt you speak of before you speak against it

Yeah, god help the owner dies, then how will it get food
Yeah, god help the owner dies, then how will it get food
Oh yeah here let's lock this animal inside a man made house, see how stupid it is? It can't even get out!
"if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -Albert Einstein
Kind of applies here
Yeah, god help the owner dies, then how will it get food
Considering this is a trained guide dog it'd probably be picked up by whoever gave the owner the animal in the first place to help another blind person.
Or perhaps one of the owner's family members would take care of it, or a neighbor, or a friend.

The new account, the wording and the arguments he's making makes it seem pretty clear he's trolling. I'd just stop replying if I were you.
