Cartoonist Faces Up To 25 Years in Prison For Failed ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Lawsuit
A federal grand jury indicted amateur cartoonist Jayme Gordon, 51, on December 16, 2015, alleging seven counts of wire fraud and perjury relating to a lawsuit Gordon had filed in 2011 against DreamWorks Animation.
Gordon had claimed that DreamWorks based its 2008 animated feature Kung Fu Panda on his Kung Fu Panda Power pitch, which he claimed to have submitted to DreamWorks previously. He abruptly withdrew his lawsuit in 2013 after DreamWorks attorneys confronted him with evidence he had traced his drawings from a 1996 Disney Lion King coloring book.
I can't even believe this shit :v:
What is more ridiculous, the man for trying to sue dreamworks with traces from a coloring book or him getting 25 of prison for it

It's more of the seven counts of wire fraud thats worth 25 years, plagerism is just worth damages
During discovery related to the lawsuit, DreamWorks’ attorneys unearthed evidence that on April 10, 2012 Gordon had deliberately erased computer files holding material related to the lawsuit. In fact, Gordon installed and used a program called Permanent Eraser to remove the files, and then deleted Permanent Eraser itself on April 13, 2012.
How the fuck does this even happen? Are Animation studio lawyers really that powerful?
How the fuck does this even happen? Are Animation studio lawyers really that powerful?
does he have to get permanent eraser to erase permanent eraser?
that is the bigger question.
this is fucking bullshit
this guy gets around the same time as nelson mandala did because of a fucking cartoon
I'm really having trouble believing that this is real
Honestly I don't think infringement should have jail time, just fines.
[editline]4th January 2016[/editline]
Jail time should be for people who are a danger to those around them.
He's not going to get 25 years, that's the maximum possible sentence. Please read the actual article wherein they mention that the FBI themselves don't even think he'll get 25. The guy is a scumbag for so obviously and poorly scheming to make lots of money off a legitimate business.
Anybody complaining about the jailtime is missing the whole "fraud and perjury" thing.
He's not getting 25 years for the tracing itself, guys. It's more the "trying to sue a company with a fraudulent case" part.
Also, he's facing a POTENTIAL twenty five years; he hasn't been sentenced that yet.

Trying to sue a company with a fraudulent case, AND trying to delete evidence :v:

Once again, maybe read the article. The 25 years is for multiple counts of wire fraud, perjury, and destroying evidence.

Cause that's worse than murder, right?
25 is just the maximum sentence too and its a separate case, so stop being stupid.

Is that fucking Timon, OC-ized
Cause that's worse than murder, right?
Technically it is, you're taking all the history and knowledge of Law gained for hundreds of years, setting it all on fire, then pissing it out with bloody pee just so you can make money off a major animation studio.

yeah but he didn't literally murder a person
what a literal dumbass, that's goddamn hilarious.
where's that comic of 'i made this. you made this? i made this.'
yeah but he didn't literally murder a person
No he didn't, he just wasted the law system's and a animation studio's time AND money just because he wanted to make a huge profit off a shitty trace.
If I were one of the big wigs of Dreamworks, I'd be pissed as hell too some asshole is wasting my time and money that could go into animation projects because he tried to put a rope belt on a old panda drawing and saying it's Back Jlack.

except it says up to
this is how court cases work. there's a good chance they settle and he gets off with a light punishment.
they always put the maximum up as the bar, jesus christ guys
he's not going to get 25 years but he deserves major punishment because he's a fucking cock
[editline]4th January 2016[/editline]
this made dreamworks look like a bunch of thieves and cost them millions of dollars. copyright trolls are the worst

Not really though?
This is just 'you don't respect the legal system so off with your head' more than anything else

This is just 'you don't respect the legal system so off with your head' more than anything else
Okay, okay okay, let's say jail time is rocks.
You murder somebody and you get a boulder dropped on your skull. It weighs seventy-five pounds.
Meanwhile somebody who steals a car gets a small rock, about three to five pounds, dropped on their head.
This guy. This guy has a bag of up to twenty five one pound rocks hovering over his head right now.
It's really that simple, he's not getting punished for any one thing, it's a bunch of little punishments that add up to a large one.

Magnets. Could they have possibly worked?
Magnets. Could they have possibly worked?
Degauss, crush, and burn the pieces at a high temperature to ensure maximum damage. Rest of things, they will probably be able to fix with help from computer forensics.
Why the hell does a Luon King coloring book have a panda in it?
Surprised nobody bought up how that wasn't the only thing he traced
