Recently I've been looking to get a longboard. I'm bored of walking everywhere and skateboarding has always appealed to me, but I never fully caught onto standard street skating, I want to just cruise and longboards are therefore what I need My current "information" that you should probably know about (I'll re-edit with any other information you ask for): Location: England (United Kingdom) Price Range: Up to roughly £100 (Maybe a bit more) I'd mainly like this for transportation which means softish wheels which are pretty big (70mm ish), and ABEC-7 or 9's for a smooth ride Also althoguh drop through's are supposedly better for cruising, I still need to be able to make turns and be able to carve relatively quickly on a deck with 40" being the middle sort of size I was looking at this earlier, so any comments? http://www.longboardsuk.com/complete-decks/mindless-maverick-longboard.html So if anyone has any advice on what to buy, where to buy it or even different styles that I can use for my taste then please just post your thoughts thanks :)
if there's any stores that sell longboards near you i'd recommend to go there first and just get the feel of the different kinds. but if that's not an option then it's really about what you feel you'll like, everyone is different. my board btw

(Nice board btw, is that a drop-through, what size wheels do you use?)
Bu-Bu-Bu-Bu-Bump :) EDIT: Fine, it seems "NotMeh" doesn't like 2 day bumps when someone is requesting serious information, or did you just not like the way I bumped?
Honestly, if your just trying to get around, and dont want a trick board, you should get some oldskool re-press. Powell Peralta has some awesome re-issues, I own one like this: I suggest this because longboards are heavy, bulky, and cumbersome, especially for getting around. They are mostly intended for bombing hills. With an oldskool you can still get the same wide trucks, softer bigger wheels, and a stylish board that is light, easy to maneuver, and isn't going to be heavy/ a problem when you get to your destination. The company I mentioned has been around almost since the start of skating, and was a pioneer to what skating is today. So I'm not leading you wrong here. I've been at it for a long time.

If it's dying, let it die.
Alright then, nice to know that they have been around for a while aswell, I'll check it out thanks :)
No problem man, I honestly think you'd like riding one of these. If you think about the history of long boarding, they were basically made by surfers (the same way regular boards were), but they were made to better mimic the feel of a surfboard on a wave. They aren't ment for a lot of pushing. I think you would be happy with it, like I said, it's the best of both worlds. Just build it up sick, or you'd run the risk of people questioning weather you knew what you bought or not :P This site has a bunch of legit builds. These are all good... Or you could pick your own setups, but be careful, you dont want wack parts. ...I also see you're in the UK, I dunno what the scene is like out there, but out here in California (USA), oldskool boards are starting to make a comeback.
Well thanks for the help everyone, it's good to know some other places that I can look around at and also now having a greater knowledge of longboarding :) But I think I'm going to go with the Mindles Maverick. The shop is local incase I need to go there for anything, I like the actual boards overall style and look, and it seems to be a pretty good build for the price, which with their guarantee I should be able to get it for £95 If anyone's got any comments on my choice, please express these views, but once again, thanks to everyone that commented with useful comments
That'll be a clean board for what it is at a decent price, go for it, hopefully you'll enjoy skating more than you did in the past. You'll like the trucks that are on it, they carve really well
If you have a good idea of what board you want, use Muir Skate. I like Loaded's boards the most, so if you haven't, take a look at those.
So I thought I might as well post in here as well as the GD thread. Alright so I'm just getting into longboarding, I have new Wheels (Mindless Bandits) and Bearings (Bones reds), However I still need a new deck and trucks. I have roughly £100-120 to spend. The deck I have currently is serviceable, but the trucks are ruined, so what I need is suggestions for good beginners trucks/deck. I've been looking at the Mindless Maverick DT Deck, its £70 and leaves around £40 to spend on trucks. It's a pretty nice deck to be honest, it's evenly shaped, nice finishing and the length and width are just great Another thing is that it has quite a high flex and being a drop-through keeps you low to the ground which gives a greater feel of stability and such He also has shifta 76x53 mm wheels on it and from what I can tell gets no wheel bite, so your smaller Bandit wheels should suffice for the time being, and aslong as those bearings fit into the wheels securely, then you should have no problem other than to get the trucks you desire, but you have a good amount of money to do so Long story short: Nice deck, make sure you remember it's drop through though
Would you say it would be better to put in the extra £10 for the DT or just to stick with the Standard Maverick?
It depends what you want out of it in all honesty I personally think that the DT looks better than the Maverick deck, but as I said before, remember it's a drop-through so the idea is that it's closer to the ground to give higher stability and also be great at bombing hills Overall, riding on both the Maverick standard and the DT I'd say to get the DT deck due to the nice aesthetics and riding style achievable, but it's your choice, and base it therefore on how you ride, not look :)
