An Augusta, Georgia man is in custody after he was found drunk and half naked, allegedly after a night of partying with a pair of uncaged monkeys in the lab where he worked. According to Augusta’s WJBF, Channel 6, 32-year-old Coley Oneal Mitchell is in the Richmond County Jail, charged with public drunkenness.
Mitchell was an employee of Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU), which owns the lab where the monkeys are kept. He was discovered partially disrobed and unconscious in a Lab Animal Services Technician locker room by campus police on Monday.
A GHSU spokesperson confirmed to WJBF that two monkeys had been let out of their cages in the Animal Services Lab over the weekend.
The university has released a statement that reads, “No animals were harmed during the incident, but the university takes the allegations very seriously. GHSU does not condone behavior that conflicts with the research, education and clinical missions of the university and employees are expected to conduct themselves, at all times, with integrity and respect.”
The monkeys were checked by a veterinarian, who pronounced them healthy and unharmed before returning them to their cages.
That's pretty awesome, actually.
I guess his mind was going monkeys with the alcohol, right? :v:
Seems pretty worth it if you ask me.

You could say he slipped on one too many bananas.
Getting drunk and chilling with two monkeys would be pretty damn awesome.
Doctor Bright may no longer bring alcohol into the primate testing area (please tell me someone actually gets this.)

I thought that BEFORE I googled it, mind you

You know there's something wrong with your educational system when you have to mix education and police.
Actually, I knew about it beforehand. I do, however, admit that I put it into google to double-check so as to not make a fool of myself in case I was wrong.
You know there's something wrong with your educational system when you have to mix education and police.
Would you rather, campus security?
You know there's something wrong with your educational system when you have to mix education and police.
They are supposed to make sure people follow the rules on campus, rules like: Don't party with the monkey test subjects. It has nothing to do with the educational system. :downs:

You know how big colleges are, right
They're like small towns
I didn't know Andrew W.K. worked in a lab.
Huh. Nothing happens here much, but when it does, its pretty crazy.
I guess his mind was going monkeys with the alcohol, right? :v:
I believe the term you're looking for is 'going bananas.'

Well, schools here also have police officers that walk around, and drug dogs.
Gotta wonder what that "partying" entailed, I'm imagining disco balls and metal.
Just added this to my bucket list.

Because ineducated, inconsequent students, aren't part of the educational system?
Let's take another educational system as reference. For instance, the french educational system. There has never been police inside of french educational institutions, and we have yet to see our students party with monkey test subjects, or go on shootings, or whatever it is that you crazy northern-american nutjobs do at school.

Complete with poor people.
Oh wait, those are students.
I'm surprised nobody's question why he was naked with a bunch of monkeys yet.

I don't see why that needs to be questioned.

So you are saying that any university in france has never had a problem with students in any manner whatsoever, and that no illegal activity goes on at any french university?
'campus police' are simply security hired by the university for the safety of the students and staff, and the well being of the university. They aren't government, (or any other outside body) controlled in any manner. They are there so that the police force of the town the university belongs to can continue to serve the town, rather than be hassled by the university.
I don't see the problem?

Yeahh, I live in Amherst, MA, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst enrolls more than 27,000 students every year.

Almost the entire area in this photo is university property.

Because letting a private company take care of security is a very smart choice right
Because letting a private company take care of security is a very smart choice right

It isn't a private company, it is a part of the university staff managed and maintained by a division of the university administration themselves. They aren't hiring a private company, they are building a security force from citizens who put in a job application for a security position at the university. From there they are trained to become campus security officers and then they are put on shifts.
I don't see why that needs to be questioned.
Those poor, poor monkeys.

You've never heard of a private security company?

I swear some people come up with the stupidest reasons to hate on my country.
"Oh you have police on campus? What a terrible place lol"

Judging by your posts, it sounds like your school systems can't afford teachers, much less security.
