Halp! So lately, there has been a religious crusade to convert all halomaps community members to cryengine to work on shitty half-assed projects that will never see the light of day... But recently this crap has gotten out of hand. Apparently crytek will come fuck us up if we don't add a section for cryengine on halo maps :V I know that halomaps doesn't have the best reputation for its early years on the porting scene, but i just wanted to see what facepunchers thought, and whether we could share a laugh or two at other peoples expense ;p I know this is a larger community, but has this happened often here? EDIT: Apparently just regular troll accounts *sigh*.
Wow this is a terribly big and traumatic situation
have fun porting that stuff to cryengine 3 when multiplayer support for CE3 has been more or less completely fucked over since the 3.5 release
nobody cares about halomaps.
nobody cares about halomaps.
i did, back in 05
Contingency is a cool looking project, but I don't think most of the Halo modding scene is up to snuff to be making current gen assets. There's a select handfull, but they're all working on CMTSPV3 lol. I think the proper future of Halo 1's PC modding scene might be with Inferno's 12d engine. He's basically making an engine from scratch that all of CE can be easily ported to. Well, "future" because I'm not convinced it will be finished before any shred of Halo PC community is left and if it is I doubt any Halo modding folks will adapt to it because the scene kinda sucks and it's full of naysayers and lazy fucking idiots and people who can't adapt to shit. There was an active push against Open Sauce even though it basically made everything ten times better. Despite that, I'm secretly hoping CMT ditches open sauce and takes this guy on so I can start making some proper 44k stereo sounds for weapons and truly start remastering the old shitty stuff.
Unless you're sitting on millions of dollars, CryEngine is a piece of shit, if you've got that kind of money and manpower you mind as well use Unigine. CryTek wants people to believe CryEngine is indie friendly too, but that's a fucking lie, it's just a publicity stunt to make it appear like they've got an active community.
We also have this other guy using cmt assets to make a game in Unity. The thing with OS is, there are only like 3-4 people actually developing it. And they have taken almost a year hiatus now on updating it. CMT has also slowed down considerably lately. There are a very few people actually doing anything worth-while in CE anymore to note of, the majority of members are half-assing ports just to show them off and then quit the next day. I was supposed to be animating a friggen mantis for cmt, but due to current engine limitations on bone/node count, half the ik crap is out the door. Other than that, I have nothing to really work with to help. As far as inferno and 12d goes, I thought i saw mention of disregarding singleplayer/ai atm to work on multiplayer features.
CMT hasn't slowed down at all. they/we just stopped releasing media.
Ah, taken from what masterz said about being shorthanded, I assumed that was the reason. Then again that was probably a month ago.
Oh my god, Halomaps is leaking. I said this on Halomaps, and I'll say this again. I'm fine with people leaving halomaps to work on the cryengine. As long as it culls the people who can't stand to work on the Halo engine, and can't churn anything half-decent. I honestly do hope the Halomaps forum does actually get shut down. I'd be fine with that. If people are actually passionate about modding for Halo:CE, they'll find some other avenue to communicate through. I personally post my projects in the Halo thread in the general games section. And yea, posting this kind of stuff in General Discussion is asking for trouble. As far as stuff like that happening here, there's plenty of differences between HM and Facepunch, but there's one critical difference that is causing many problems. There's only one goddamn moderator; the person who runs the site. And he has shit to do in real life. Some people may be taken aback by the strictness of the moderators here, but it does so much to cut down on the childish bullshit that I see routinely posted on HM.
I was just having too much fun watching/replying in the threads. Honestly I wouldn't care too much for the forums shutting down, its just the huge database of maps/utilities that would probably spell the end of halo CE if it did go down. I honestly wasn't too sure where to post this, so my fault. Dennis working for uxb also has it issues pertaining to employees apparently so he can't just add more moderators due to policy.
If only we got a halo 3 port already so we can use assets from that.
im sorry for your loss OP
offtopic but I remember the days where I would've have gotten banned within minutes for posting this thread here :v: My favorite cryengine to work with is CE1; Crysis 1 is still fun to fuck around in.

Facepunch isn't going to help.
I'm having trouble bringing myself to give a shit. I mean, I don't want to see Halomaps die, but the forums can fucking rot.
Its not about help, I just thought it was funny. Dennis could always just shut down registration again.
