Gender Quotas to be Enforced on Comedy Panel Shows by BBC

Danny Cohen, head of the BBC's television output, has promised viewers that the corporation will not make any more all-male comedy panel shows.
Following recommendations made by the BBC Trust last year, Cohen has underlined his determination to see women appearing in the habitually macho environment of panel shows such as QI and Mock the Week. Talking to the Observer about his plans for better representing his audiences on screen, Cohen said: "We're not going to have any more panel shows with no women on them. It's not acceptable."
Cohen, who ran BBC1 until last spring and before that was the controller of digital channel BBC3, also said he had work to do to make sure there are more older women featuring in the corporation's television programmes.

I don't see a reason to have a quota - as long as female applicants aren't ignored for being female.
But females aren't funny Except when they try and do what men do so this is genious
I hope this doesn't mean that Jo Brand is going to be forcefully slapped into every panel show.
Whenever I hear her name on QI I immediately turn to a different channel.
Might be good for giving publicity to some better female comedians, plenty of good examples over here.
If they don't give a fuck or are just lazy though, they will just put Jo Brand on everything and it'll be a complete failure.
this is a good idea, hope it works well
edit: oops sorry guys
Its better than having the same old people over and over i guess
Jo Brand - shit
Sarah Millican - double shit
That one with the puppets - kill me
That smug one with the really thin glasses, almost definitely a Guardianite, I think her name is Sue something - kill her
Sandi Toksvig - no no no
That Indian one - NO NO NO NO NO
Victoria Wood - has too much sense to do them
Better solution: stop making the damned panel shows. Make something interesting, we're paying £12 a month, stop having this what is essentially a bunch of mates paying each other to laugh at everyone's jokes.

Only woman I love to watch on QI is Sandi Toksvig. Quick, smart and funny. Wish she was a guest more.
I'm hoping this means they'll give more opportunity to new/less recognised female comedians rather than just cycling through the same four or five faces.

That Canadian woman is pretty funny too.
*Katherine Ryan, though she has only been on once.

Jo Brand and Sarah Millican are my faves
But Sue Perkins nah she's rubbish
Does this mean we're going to get a slew of shitty comedians under the auspices of equality
we'll kill andy parsons if it means sue perkins isn't allowed near a microphone for the rest of time we swear

Sarah Millican is pretty funny
she does suffer from a bit of the old 'getting trapped making jokes about relationships forever'

Half the tv shows I watch are british panel shows. Shadap.
as long as it's Victoria Coren every time I'm not bothered.

Also I fuckin' love Toksvig

for fuck's sake
this could be a good idea if it's implemented well though

I think I know more people who enjoy these shows than dislike them.
Gender quotas are fucking dumb, but hey, as long as they aren't cringe material.
Waaaa this is misandry
My MRA group will be hearing about this
I honestly don't understand how people can think gender quotas are a good thing. It's literally replacing misogyny with misandry, which is not equality by any stretch of the imagination.
Instead of actually fixing the problems they replace one problem with another
jo brand is the loveliest lady. why the hate ?
I always thought Victoria Coren Mitchell was usually pretty funny, but only really on topical news shows (since that's mostly all I can remember her from). Don't see her enough on TV. I really can't stand Sarah Millican.

Nobody hates her personally. I just hate the concept of gender quotas

uh, i don't know about you but from what i've seen here most people here don't agree with this because they think that gender quotas are a terrible way to force a more balanced amount of men and women, not because they are strawmen and think men are being ~oppressed~
also this "lol if you don't agree with this then ur a MRA!!! lol this is misandry since get it misandry isn't real and the people who think it is wear fedoras and have big neckbeards?????" shit is getting old.

They are right when they say misandry is not as much of a problem as misogyny, but that doesn't mean we need to make it a bigger problem
Loose Women should have Men too
They are right when they say misandry is not as much of a problem as misogyny, but that doesn't mean we need to make it a bigger problem
this is true! but i was just referrering to the people who throw a tantrum and claim that it should be removed from the dictionary since "it obviously can't happen" or "it doesn't exist" when they hear someone use the word :v:
Loose Women should have Men too
Loose Women has male guests on it all the time.
This just sounds like the opposite of equality
