• My Girlfriend's Mountain Bike Crash: 1 Fractured Rib
    25 replies, posted
I didn't really want to watch my girlfriend break a rib for my first GoPro Hero 4 mountain biking video, but it happened.... We had to walk 1.5 miles out of the trail after this, it was a shitty day. I had to add the music for the slow mo, it's just awkward if it's silent!
It was freaky as hell hearing your heart beat during that video. Also, is it common to break your ribs over a fall like that? I had no idea it was that easy. Hope your girlfriend recovers quickly.
Ouch, it's incredible to think that even what you would consider a "small" fall like that can break a rib if you land in the wrong place.

I didn't think you could break your finger turning a door handle but I managed somehow.

In person, I knew it was a bad wreck from hearing it, I stopped the camera because I didn't want to see it again if possible. Nothing worse than seeing your significant other 1.5 miles from any rescue cracking a rib. I was fucking panicking because I didn't know if she had a punctured lung or something. She kind of told me to post this though so she could explain why she had to take a couple days off though, so I don't feel like a total asshole for posting this video [editline]2nd December 2014[/editline]
It was freaky as hell hearing your heart beat during that video. In real life I heard her hit the ground and it was insane, I started to panic immediately... I was especially freaked out because we were right at the middle of the ride (1.5 miles in, 1.5 miles out). She is tough, but this was one of the worst things I've seen happen to her. I had to walk her bike up every slight hill and down any hills, so it was a really shitty walk out.

Like yeah she had a broken rib, BUT I HAD TO WALK HER BIKE UP ALL THE HILLS! I know it probably wasn't meant like that but gave me a good laugh. (hope shes better)
Ey, a fellow mountain biker! Her mistake was at least partially in her cornering technique. She was leaning with her body and not with her bike, throwing her center of gravity way off to the right for that first right turn. By putting herself so far out it made it difficult to switch directions. You can also see the dropoff at 1:35 that probably was the real fault-- her trail vision. In mountain biking you go where you stare at and lean your core into, and judging from her crash it looks like she was probably fixated on that spot. I just had knee surgery and I have nothing better to do haha.

My friend got playfully wrestled to the ground and he broke 2 ribs. And he was just lowered onto the ground, not thrown.
You are a blue member, and I am a gold. I also have more posts. How come you get to have a gf, but not me?!

I wish the UK had more trails like this, it's just wet crap half the time that gets everywhere, forever cleaning mud and leaf litter out of my XC bike

Some people get hit by cars and walk off with a bruise, some people jump from the bottom stair in their home and land funny and break their ankle clean I was riding my mountain bike through the woods in Gatlinburg one time, along the Little Pigeon River. And it was a pretty open, flat and smooth trail going down hill a bit so I was going pretty fast, and my left handlebar just caught a small tree and the bike stopped dead, flung me over, and I tumbled for a good 20 feet. Got up, grabbed my broken bike, and just walked back to my camp site I was a strong kid. Now days I feel like my wrist will break doing a pushup
I hope your mom is ok
...do you like the hero 4
yup, the 1080p 120FPS recording is awesome. The battery life is better than the Hero 3 too.
I'm sorry that music made this situation pretty funny
Probably just fell on it at a really funky angle, anything can break really. I didn't think you could break your finger turning a door handle but I managed somehow.
I broke my arm once by falling of a bed no more than 2ft off the ground
At 1:30 just add this Starts at 3m 2s
I broke my arm once by falling of a bed no more than 2ft off the ground
I fell out of bed once and didn't even wake up. My mom heard the thump, walked in and though I was dead
Someone hugged my friend by surprise, and somehow his lung collapsed. it took 2 surgeries and about 2 months in the hospital. That guy must feel like crap for hugging him

That above video is actually really interesting, especially for someone like me who hasn't got a clue about offroading. I'd have made the rookie mistake of leaning into the curve, but now it makes so much sense as to why that'd be a bad idea.
I'm sorry that music made this situation pretty funny
haha! The funny thing is I edited the video only a couple hours after we got back from urgent care... I showed a few friends and family and they were shocked that I would do it so soon, especially adding music and slow motion. Jen hurt her rib from laughing at the edited video and just said I was dumb.
