Looking at his Reddit account History, He kept it well under wraps about who he was until that AMA announcement
apparently asa butterfield plays dota lmao
can't even deal with drow smh
The only book adaptation I'm looking forward to is Mortal Engines because it is the most ridiculous thing ever written and anything else pales in comparison.

I'm too scared they'll fuck that up.

I'm sure Peter Jackson will do it justice. The author turned down a lot of adaptation offers for that reason.
Harrison Ford back in a Sci-Fi film? Hot damn.
I find it hilarious that the kind playing Ender has a history of Dota2 and Starcraft. How appropriate.
I'm going to have to re-read Enders now. Haven't read it in many many years
Looks horrible.
another hunger games (as in it's shit)
I thought Hunger Games was pretty good.
The problem with Ender's Game is that it's incredibly hard to make the ENTIRE book a movie, because there's a ton of things going on. His sister's weird political subplot (which amuses me but wouldn't translate well), his mind game thing (that would also be difficult to translate). They can't fully explore what a strategist he is solely with the war games (because there were like fifteen things he did that were awesome). That being said, there's a hell of a lot they could explore. I'm not sure how much they WILL (the shower scene would be difficult because he kills a dude by kicking him in the dick until he dies), but it should be fun.
I think this movie would have been better off if it had a lower budget. It would have forced them to have the battle simulator look more like a game and thus forced them to rely on something other than cool looking action scenes.
I want it to be good, but I have full faith in Hollywood's ability to turn it into another Hunger Games. I fully expect streamlined or nonexistent political plots, a shoehorned tweeny romance (there was fucking zero romance in the book assholes), some crowded effects-heavy sequences, and we probably won't get to see Ender fucking murder anyone who picks on him.
Also, why are F-35s fighting the Bugger ships? I thought the First Invasion was all fought in space, and further into the future than freakin' F-35s.
The last thing that bugs me is that in the back of my mind, I know that however good or bad it is, that crazy asshole Card is getting rich. There are no other authors whose work I really like, but I completely hate them as a person.
Then don't go watch the movie.

It wouldn't be unreasonable for the F35 to have a lifespan of 60 years or so in reserve roles. If the First Bugger War happens before 2070 or so they would be in it
And to be fair, the First Bugger War wasn't entirely in space. They briefly invaded the atmosphere.
I managed to get 4th comment in Asa's AMA on Reddit, and he actually responded to me, wow
How do you handle schoolwork when taking on a movie?
What is your favorite part of filming for a movie?

I have roughly 3 hours of school every day when I'm filming. My tutor stays in contact the the school and I get sent work and exams etc... It's hard work, but its worth it eh. And the best part of filming, I would say meeting all the incredible people I've had the fortune to meet and work with.
I also want to say before it gets out of hand, as it inevitably will if this thread happens to grow at all, the book and the movie will have differences. Asa Butterfield (Ender actor), Orson Scott Card (author), and several others involved with the production of the film have all acknowledged this:
You won’t be disappointed, as long as you don’t go into the cinema thinking that the film will be 100% truthful to the book. And anything that might get me in trouble I’m just gunna ignore

...Card notes that effectively NONE of the scenes(2) from the movie are from the book and vice versa.

GL: How close is the film to the actual story in the book? I understand that some things have to be left out to fit it into a movie, but how much did things actually change from the book to the movie?
B: While adapting the book to a script, our director Gavin [Hood] took much care to keep most things accurate to the book. Though, due to the PG-13 rating, some of the more graphic content was toned down.

'If there is one thing I want to accomplish by doing this, it is to make the lovers of the book happy. I don't want it to be another Hollywood sci-fi piece of shit'.
GOD BLESS YOU MISTER BUTTERFIELD
I really hope we get a Speaker for the Dead movie so we get weird pig Aliens and AI mind sex.

Oh hell no, the rest of the Ender series was way too batshit insane to ever make it to the screen.

Speaker might be radically different from EG but it's by no means batshit insane. You just can't read it with the expectation that you'll be getting Ender's Game 2. Generally people agree Xenocide and CotM aren't as good as Speaker/EG, but they tie up the series nicely if you're a fan.
And the Bean series is another entirely different style than EG, but still excellent in its own right.
If anything, the thing blocking the other Ender books from making it to the cinema is their narrative-driven nature -- they wouldn't translate well. But, so is EG, so we'll see.
I just bought the book to read...
Should I read the book or wait an extra long time for the movie?
Heh I just bought it at halfprice and read it yesterday in 5 hours... I forgot how fucking good of a read it was since I was in 9th grade of Highschool. It nice having a different perspective of reading it from at a young age and well a bit older age of 21. I hope they adapt it well to the movie because the only thing i could honestly cut out for the movie is locke and demosthenes if they had to and the timeskip afterwards the big climax.

Read the book, you won't be disappointed. I can't say the same for waiting several months to watch the movie.
I am excited to see it but I'm not going to get my hopes up too much.
I just started reading the book last night and so far it is pretty good. I'm only a few chapters in though.
The film looks good as well, hopefully it won't be disappointing after the book.
This just reminds me how the only two books I really understood out of the saga were Ender's game and Ender's Shadow. Everything else just went right over my head

That said I'm excited for the Battle Room Scenes.
Rat army for life

Ew, Rat army was only worth a damn because of Dink.
