Speaking as a very moderate left-winger, the real problem is that people like this are more widespread than they should be, and very vocal. People think all conservatives are like this because moderates get drowned out by all the bullshit.

It's always interesting to hear Americans use the term liberal derogatively. As if liberalism isn't a core concept in almost the entirety of western society. Also funny that it's liberal = left and conservative = right, when what the U.S. calls libertarians are known as classic liberals elsewhere in the world, and conservatism occurs on the left too.
People just want to feel divided, right wing "conservatives" just use liberal as a blanket term for anyone that disagree's with them.
