Study: Teens who smoke weed daily are 60% less likely to complete high school than those who never u
Teenagers who smoke marijuana daily are over 60 percent less likely to complete high school than those who never use. They're also 60 percent less likely to graduate college and seven times more likely to attempt suicide. Those are the startling conclusions of a new study of adolescent cannabis use out today in The Lancet Psychiatry, a British journal of health research...
In other words, many of the problems associated with teen cannabis use are likely a function of the drug's illegal status.
That said, it's completely reasonable to accept that heavy use of any drug as a teenager - be it weed, alcohol, or tobacco - is going to lead to negative consequences down the line. This in itself isn't an argument for prohibition of cannabis. For that, you'd need to demonstrate a link between relaxed cannabis laws and increased teen drug use, with the negative social consequences that go along with it. But multiple studies have shown a flat or even negative relationship between medical marijuana laws and teen cannabis use, for instance. And very early data out of Colorado shows a slight dip in teen use since the state passed a legalization measure in 2012.
Very interesting article, even as an avid stoner, i'm aware that Cannabis is probably doing harm to me. Sorry if this has been posted before. I skimmed the pages back to page 7 and couldn't find shit.
Never-mind, it was fixed.
i totally support the legalization of weeeeed but im glad that this information is getting shared
im not touching weed until i get a job

I fixed it 30 seconds after i posted the thread. Didn't think it'd be that huge.
I've smoked (cigs and weed) a few times before and I've just never seen the appeal.
It smells like shit then, and you smell like shit later. I'd much rather be drinking a good beer or whiskey than puffing this shitty smelling stick that does absolutely nothing for me.
There are so many other things I'd much rather be doing with my life. I feel like most people I see smoking are doing it because it's "cool". I just cannot see the appeal whatsoever. I'm all for legalization, but man who genuinely wants that shit.
Sounds a bit biased, considering the fact that the gateway theory has been dis-proven time and time again.

I don't think this is calling cannabis a gateway drug, I think its just presenting the data.

To be honest, it sounds like you had shit weed, kinda like how there's shit tobacco, shit whiskey, shit beer, etc. There's shit weed too.
i'd like to see the results of a similar study but involving alchohol/cigs instead of cannabis
Well no shit, daily use is going to fuck something up sooner rather than later - even if people claim it's healthy or healthier than other forms and ways of drug consumption.
Plus showing up to a major test whilst high off your socks probably won't help you much unless you studied like your life depended on it leading up to a test, even then: Would it not more or less have the same effects as being completely wasted drunk on your mind?

Also this. The results would be the same I think

If you'd look in the source they do make comparisons. We aren't allowed to post full articles anymore.

Thats about what I expected.
It's still eons safer than the legal shit they prescribe kids these days.
Like Ritalin, that turns you into a fucking zombie or Codeine.
tbf, its more likely from kids hanging out with the wrong crowd that are like fuck school to begin with. i knew plenty of A+ kids in my school that occasionally smoked pot, but there were lower class and fuck school mentality kids who smoked even more.

Yeah some guy i know that's high at school all the time is looking at roughly a 95+ percentile mark for his university entrance. That's anecdotal evidence though.

I suggest you guys read this tiny bit before anything else. Basically, (and the author of the article is aruguing this), it's not that marijuana itself is causing these things, it's its illegal status that is.

Pretty much everything that can go into your body has positives and negatives.
There are some prescriptions that are more dangerous than cannabis, but I doubt anyone is prescribing anything that dangerous unless the patient is in dire need.

I'm massively addicted to nicotine, or rather, the kick it gives

It does "absolutely nothing for you"?
Meaning it had zero effect on you? That's something that people experience a lot when they first try it. Maybe not hitting it right. You might have to get at least one real high out of it before you can really say you prefer alcohol (though there's no pressure - don't smoke if you don't want to)
Wow, another study telling us what we already knew.
I guess it's important to back these things up with studies.

People who are trying substances for the first time might do it because its cool or because its illegal, or maybe at parties just to fit in, but many are continuing to use it because they are addicted.
My marks went up in highschool when I started smoking weed so.....
But weed is good for you and cures cancer you guys
Once you get to the point where you're doing any drug everyday, of course it's going to be a problem. I like weed and think it should be legalized, but like everything else it should only be used in moderation.
Wait, High School? That's fucking pathetic. How can you be too stupid to finish High School?
Not putting this against weed, weed is awesome but I can't comprehend how anybody could be too dumb to get his Matura, the most basic education you can receive.

Do you attribute you smoking to your grades raising?

It's not that they are all dumb, its that many wont do work/wont show up because they are smoking weed or whatever.

I figure, if beer and cigarettes (harmful and addiction substances) are legal in moderation, so should weed.
I don't think weed causes teens to fail high-school. More like the kids who are struggling are attracted to Cannabis.
