Also, the survey suggests users of peer-to-peer file-sharing software buy 30 percent more music than those who do not use peer-to-peer software
Who was the total moron who said "hey let's make it so that people can't post articles!" The old system was perfect, and someone had to shit it all up. (User was banned for this post ("Thanks for derailing the thread dude." - Craptasket))
Who was the total moron who said "hey let's make it so that people can't post articles!" A while back Garry was actually sued for an article that someone had posted.

Whether or not the P2P causes them to buy more is another thing.
Who was the total moron who said "hey let's make it so that people can't post articles!" The old system was perfect, and someone had to shit it all up.
When I entered the thread and noticed how things are now this was my reaction. (Ignore the fact it is spongebob) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBhGO_Td7X4
I've pirated a lot of music in the past but I also buy a lot of records and go to concerts. More than half of my music collection was discovered thanks to piracy.
Whether or not the P2P causes them to buy more is another thing.
well the entire buying of albums has decreased as a whole anyway.
I like this rule, it makes it so people have to actually read the article
ppfff hahaha I hope you're joking and understand this is literally making less people read the article because SH users can only be expected to at most skim the first quoted paragraph of an article before spouting some dumb opinion on it
Pirate, Find new music you like, buy and endorse. Pirate, Find bad music, delete. Simples!
I like this rule, it makes it so people have to actually read the article
Yeah Zeke you're totally right It's not like the whole reason people come to SH is to have world news in a clean, consistent format. Garry may as well make it so that the thread title is a link to the article itself, that'll totally make people read the article, right? Face it, this is a shitty rule and will (hopefully) be removed by the end of the week, like that retarded rule against puns.
Other studies done by indepedent organizations have shown the same story: "pirates" generally spend quite a bit more money on media (music, movies, books, games, etc) than regular consumers do.

sharing is caring, besides... cassette recording was made legal. different technology doesn't make it viable to make different laws. [editline]24th January 2013[/editline]
You have insulted the all mighty gary. How dare you. [sp]Yeah it's pretty fucking stupid.[/sp]
maybe garry got far too many complaints from writers of said articles that this forum didn't have permission to publish their work. there are reasons people make decisions.
I quite like the system that Spotify and Pandora have got going; you put in a band or song that you enjoy and it finds and plays you similar music under its own terms (namely, it picks the playlist for you and very, very occasionally throws an ad in there). I think it's amazing! I've found heaps of new bands that I would never have found otherwise and I get to listen to all this great stuff for free, legally
The more the "western" world becomes more "wifi enabled", the easier it will be for streaming services to get their profit. However, the music industry is struggling to be much of an "industry". And when I talk about industry, I mean pop artists who are forced to fulfil contract obligations rather than actual artists who fulfil themselves with the music they make. [editline]24th January 2013[/editline] Also the LIVE music profits show that more aged pop artists are making big bucks. The only way forward for the "Industry" is to plant seeds and chill.
I like this rule, it makes it so people have to actually read the article
It means they're less likely to. Before, with the article quoted, you could read it without going to a new page. Now you have to go to a new page, which means a lot of users aren't going to bother clicking it.
i'm fairly sure the rule wasn't implemented to "make people read"...
I've pirated a lot of music in the past but I also buy a lot of records and go to concerts. More than half of my music collection was discovered thanks to piracy.
I would be fan of about 3 bands if it weren't due the rampant piracy of my friends in my childhood (and a later discovery of internet radio) and their want to share all of their music with everyone. It's easy to see how many Americans grow up unappreciative of music, what with the fact that most of us can't afford any kind of library of it. Thanks to my exposure, I am a fan of many international bands, and will go out of my way to buy the stuff I like (I pay for Spotify to cover all of the stuff I can do without hard-copies of now)
discovering new things should be celebrated. The internet is the CORE of the world's way of life.
Probably as a measure to prevent copyright trolling. A while back Garry was actually sued for an article that someone had posted.
Then shouldn't we put some disclaimer or something?
Then shouldn't we put some disclaimer or something?
50 new news posts every day, a disclaimer will do jack-all.
