Marvel pulled back the curtain on the long-teased Spider-Men series today, unveiling that the Marvel 616 Peter Parker will be meeting the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Miles Morales, for the very first time. Spider-Men is a five issue mini-series from Brian Bendis and Sara Pichelli with covers by Jim Cheung, and will launch in June.
The story finds Peter thrust into another universe while tracking down a villain, only to discover that the "him" of that new universe is dead and there's a different hero in his place. As the two meet and learn about one another, it will grow their characters and change their lives forever.
"This year is the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man and we're so happy that the stars aligned for us to tell a Spider-Man story that nobody has ever seen before," said Bendis. "It's an honor and a privilege to present both this story and these characters to fans on such an auspicious occasion. The work Sara has done on Spider-Men is a step above the already high standard that she has set for herself on our Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series. For me, this is a celebration of the best character in mainstream comics and some of the best art mainstream comics has to offer."
"This is one of the biggest stories in Marvel history," said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. "Peter Parker and Miles Morales are two of our most popular characters and fans have been clamoring for them to meet—we've got quite a few surprises in store for both characters. This is only the beginning of how we're celebrating Spider-Man's spectacular 50th Anniversary."
Oh boy, you yanks are going to have trouble distinguishing between the two in conversation!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "Spider-Men" before.
What are you talking about?

How about reading the article, it says "Spider-Men" there.. I clearly say "are going to", which is why I don't get your point.

Maybe his point is that you bringing up American accents was completely unfounded.
Hold on, I thought they killed off Peter Parker permanently? Heve I been fed false information?
Fair enough, if the other person had different colours and slightly different abilities but it's like Spider-Man has just been cloned. Throws away the uniqueness of this one character's abilities.

He is slightly different, he can turn invisible and knock people out by touching them. Also, I think Peter Parker is blue/red and he is black/red, so they are different in a sense.

Peter Parker is dead in the Ultimate universe, he's still alive in the main universe(616).

It's convoluted superhero bullshit.

Ohh, I see. I'm not that knowledged about comic stuff like this.

That's fine then. Not a comic fan, but judging on whether this gets made into a film eventually.

What, why?
What the fuck do those powers have to do with spider-man.
CROTCH ATTACK
Also, I really don't get why such a character-centered medium such as Western comic books switch out characters just like that. It only needs to alt universes and clogging of canon and makes it intransparent for newcomers. Heck, considering how often alt universes and time travel and reboots and stuff are used, you might as well make comics Tom & Jerry style and every new arc everything is reset without further mention.
Wasn't the "big reboot" all about accessibility? Or is this the other publisher that didn't do the reboot thing?

In the Ultimate universe Peter Parker died and that's what inspired the new Spiderman to do his thing. Which is why I'm confused by this new book since it's two universes crossing over. And in one universe Peter Parker is dead.
[editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
Dammit, late :(
Isn't the new spider man black + hispanic? Ya know, for equality or something?
I bet they're going to make him gay to cover all the bases.

I'm not racist or homophobic, I'm just saying that sometimes not being racist, or trying to not be, ends up being racist.

Maybe it turns out people only thought he died, maybe he's resurrected/cloned, or maybe it's one of those time fuck-ups that for example caused the whole Batman: Knight of Vengeance

Marvel does crossovers between their different universes and Earths all the time. There are plenty of heroes who are fully aware of the existence of these other worlds and have been to them before.
Only crossovers I like with the universes is when it's related to the Zombie universe or Deadpools running amok.

The general reception of the new Spider-Man has been quite positive, when Batman died(he's not dead anymore obviously) DC replaced him with a gay female character for a while and the reaction to that decision was so overwhelmingly positive that the character(Batwoman) got her own ongoing series.
Nothing wrong with adding a little character variety to a genre as stale and boring as superhero fiction.

Thank fuck for that, that gimmick was ran into the ground years ago.

Together they will face their new nemesis, magnet-hamster.
When did Ultimate Spiderman Die? Last I saw was the whole Carnage shishkebang.
In issue #666 I believe is when he died.
That's shit :(
I am hoping to hell and back that the numbers aren't some "One More Day" Bullshit.
Why did they have to draw him spreading his legs, why?
[sp]Also for some reason I hope we'll get a black spiderman don't ask me why I just do[/sp]
[editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
[sp]How'd Peter die by the way?[/sp]
So, this is set in the Ultimate Universe, be nice to see if Spidey interacts with the Ultimates or the Ultimate Alter-Egos of his villains. By which I mean VENOM.
