The Walt Disney Co. on Saturday said the film made an estimated $120.5 million from Thursday night previews and opening day Friday. That smashes the previous opening day record of $91.1 million, set by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2." Disney is projecting a domestic weekend total of around $220 million, which would surpass the record $208.8 million of "Jurassic World." Since beginning its overseas rollout Wednesday, "The Force Awakens" has made an estimated $129.5 million internationally.
Why am i not surprised?
Should I be surprised? Yeah, JW pulling in those numbers was neat but everyone with half a brain knew Star Wars was going to break it. Honestly, I'm more curious how close it'll get to the 3 billion dollar prediction I saw.
Everyone I've spoken to plans on going to see it
Well deserved numbers. I loved the movie it was really great. But you gotta wonder what the hell people were thinking when they decided to release Alvin and the chipmunks on the same day
Well deserved numbers. I loved the movie it was really great.
parents watch star wars and dump their kids on alvin and the chipmunks. win win.
lmao no parents watch star wars and bring their kids to star wars
parents watch star wars and dump their kids on alvin and the chipmunks. win win.
yo if i were a kid i'd make a fuss if i were dumped to see alvin and the chipmunks instead of star wars
Crushed like a bug indeed
yo if i were a kid i'd make a fuss if i were dumped to see alvin and the chipmunks instead of star wars
little before being halfway through TFW, the parents get called to the room with alvin and the chipmunks because the kids started ripping seats after figuring out they were dumped in that shit.
With the never ending stream of advertisement on every possible platforms and products I would have been surprised if it didn't beat any records.
Too think some people argued that it wouldn't beat it due to being a winter release and not a summer blockbuster.
I suppose you could say that their record is EXTINCT! Ha-ha! Ha!... Erm... *RUNS*
The first line says:
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has already surpassed $100 million in North America, and $250 million globally, setting it up for a record-setting weekend.
and the last says:
Since beginning its overseas rollout Wednesday, "The Force Awakens" has made an estimated $129.5 million internationally.
What's the difference between the figures? Doesn't globally mean internationally?
The first line says: and the last says: What's the difference between the figures? Doesn't globally mean internationally?
I think in this case internationally just means 'every country except the USA'
Astounding that these "box office experts" couldn't predict that fucking STAR WARS was gonna make this much money
I'm not honestly surprised. A majority of my high school classes has been ragging on about this movie for the past few days already.
With the never ending stream of advertisement on every possible platforms and products I would have been surprised if it didn't beat any records.
There was no way to escape all the advertisement without living under a rock. It was too much like the minions were, or even worse. Star Wars this, Star Wars that, oh come on I don't have time for that and don't have the money to watch it anyway.
Well deserved numbers. I loved the movie it was really great. It's just not an interesting series to me. [editline]19th December 2015[/editline]
There was no way to escape all the advertisement without living under a rock. I don't watch TV or visit related webpages, the only way I even heard of it was via co-workers.

Its pretty much impossible to go to most stores and not find one Star Wars tie-in.
yo if i were a kid i'd make a fuss if i were dumped to see alvin and the chipmunks instead of star wars
It's legit abuse to drop their kids off to have them see the Chipmunks movie and leave the adults to Star Wars. No Child Left to Watch Shit.
I'm still shocked JW made that much money.
I never saw advertisements for it. I don't watch TV or visit related webpages, the only way I even heard of it was via co-workers.
Can hardly believe this, unless you've been living in the wilderness for the last year and a bit
Can hardly believe this, unless you've been living in the wilderness for the last year and a bit
Are you counting the Walmart and Dodge ads for Star Wars ones?
Astounding that these "box office experts" couldn't predict that fucking STAR WARS was gonna make this much money
I was listening to the news the other day and the movie expert said "It's no secret that The Force Awakens will be the top earner of the weekend, it's just a matter of how deep into the record books it will go."
goddamn disney is getting a shitton of money can't wait to see what their franchises turn into in 5-10 years and if they're milked to death
goddamn disney is getting a shitton of money can't wait to see what their franchises turn into in 5-10 years and if they're milked to death
if they go away from the jedi and start actually exploring the universe i think it could be a while before it is miked to death. milked, sure, but star wars is a big ol' healthy cow imo
And GTA V beat this 4 times over on its first 3 days, admittedly the cost was more, but its also probably a lesser audience.
Too think some people argued that it wouldn't beat it due to being a winter release and not a summer blockbuster.
Avatar was also a winter release I think, maybe even the same day as star wars
And GTA V beat this 4 times over on its first 3 days, admittedly the cost was more, but its also probably a lesser audience.
Also you can't really sell out on a digitaly distributed game. You also cant watch it without leaving home. Honestly probably one of the only things holding star wars back is that there aren't enough theaters/ its sold put almost everywhere.
It's one of those 'event' films, like the Avengers or Avatar. I can't think of anyone I know who's not planning to see it.
