Probably the best music video ever since MJ's music videos. It has that Billie Jean vibe.

Great soundtrack. Really sounds more like Daft Punk than the RAM album did if you remove The Weeknd's vocals but he really compliments it well.

Maybe I'm missing it but I really am not a fan of the Weeknd, both in this and Starboy. I like most of DPs collab stuff with Pharrell etc. as well but nothing about The Weeknd stands out to me. Somebody try and sell me on him because all I see right now is just a high pitch pop star who can dance. If that's all he is that's fine and all but I don't see anything that makes him a #1 star. Videos aesthetic was fantastic though, I need more DP looking cool in cloaks, and when it kicked into the more Daft Punk-ish elements I loved. Its just them vocals.

Its just them vocals.[/QUOTE] Obviously there's the part that he's a fantastic singer and the production on his stuff is always great, but I really like his writing. The Weeknd blends the pop-r&b style that's big right now and talk about drugs, sex, and partying with a lot of darker emotion that's just sort of right under the surface. "Party Monster" has him waking up next to a girl he doesn't know, and thanking the lord for his life, just before checking to make sure she didn't rob him because he's paranoid of people hurting him. In "Rockin'," he refers to a relationship with him as a waste of time. "True Colors" sounds like a soft sort of love ballad but the first verse is basically, "Tell me who you've been with because I'm gonna find out no matter what." And then in "Ordinary Life," the tone shifts quickly from getting road head to driving as fast as he can because he doesn't care if he lives or dies. A lot of his music has a pretty nihilistic view of the lifestyle of drugs and partying, of hook-up culture and sex in general. Many of these ideas were stronger on his earlier stuff (my favorite example is "Montreal," where his obsession with trying to find fulfillment in random sex leads to losing a girl he actually cares about, and then he [I]blames her for not trying hard enough to change him[/I]), but even on his huge breakout hits it's still there. He switches on a dime from using drugs and sex in an aggressive, hedonistic way to seeing them as alienating and oppressive whenever he feels vulnerable. It's a great blend. I mean, he kills himself so often in his music videos it's not that hard to see his difficult relationship with the lifestyle he's preaching. Now to be fair I don't think it's this sort of lyricism that he blew up off of, but it's definitely what helped put him on the map. If anyone wants any more examples I'd be happy to provide them, but I feel like if you look you can see them pretty easily for yourself.

weeknd = the modern day mj tbh one of the greatest current r&b artists at the moment, possibly the second best after frank ocean imo
