A top company executive told investors Friday that a decision is planned by December on whether to proceed with the oil pipeline. Several news sources reported that Paul Miller, TransCanada’s executive vice president and president of liquid pipeline, said the decision will be based on demand for oil shipments and on whether Nebraska approves the pipeline. “Our assessment of these factors will really drive our investment decisions when we get into that November-December time frame,” he said. In its quarterly report, TransCanada disclosed that it has launched an “open season” for potential customers to bid on contracts for transporting oil via the Keystone XL. The open season will last until September. Miller said the company wants a “significant” level of commitments before proceeding, but he would not offer any precise targets. Now, sagging oil prices and the growth of shipping alternatives are casting the pipeline’s future in doubt.
Center right, factual
On Thursday, TransCanada launched an "open season" to seek out new contracts for the pipeline. That process will close Sept. 28, Miller said. Politico, one of the first national news outlets to highlight Miller's statements, reported that one problem TransCanada faces is shifting demand for oil. Much of that demand is coming from Asia, so shippers would probably prefer to move oil to the West Coast for export, said Rusty Braziel, president of energy consulting firm RBN Energy. “If you’re a producer in Alberta, the conundrum you face here is you really want to go west," Braziel told Politico. "Do you want to take barrels to the Gulf Coast and fight with everyone else sending barrels through the Gulf Coast? Hell no.” Jane Kleeb, founder of the anti-pipeline group Bold Alliance, questioned why Nebraska should approve a project that might never be built but would give TransCanada permanent easements to Nebraskans' land. I also would like to point out, there is already a keystone pipeline and it was constructed under obama and already connects to alberta, all of this is usually lost in the politics of the phase 4 pipeline controversy.
The demand for fuels is so shit right now. The Petronas LNG project up here just got canned after being approved to proceed. Our former premier nailed it on the NDP, then peaced out.
Thanks Obama.
Fucking OBONGO ruins everything he even turned my frog gay. I don't think it's worth it to ship processed oil sands across the USA over aquifers and some of our national parks.
So having armed thugs abuse and send dogs after those protesters was ultimately all pointless then?

For anyone who doesn't know, the keystone pipeline already exists: The Green line is a shortcut proposed to be built, known as Keystone XL.
Oh yeah you're right it was the Dakota one. Oops.
they're just trying to seize land from people who's farms are right in the path of the pipeline in nebraska
