http://www.neowin.net/news/redstone-the-codename-for-the-next-windows-update-coming-in-2016
Microsoft loves to use codenames and from the past few years, there are two in particular that you may recall; Blue and Threshold. With Windows 10 (Threshold) coming to market sometime this summer, Microsoft is already starting to work on the next update for the OS. Microsoft has said multiple times that Windows will be moving at a faster cadence than in the past and they are already working on a release for 2016. The codename for the project is 'Redstone', a popular item in the recently acquired game, Minecraft. ... It is worth pointing out too that Windows Server is expected to be released in 2016, so Redstone could possibly be related to this project as well. It's early days for the this project but as we learn more and solidify what Redstone will become, we will keep you updated.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsofts-redstone-an-update-to-windows-10-due-in-2016/
There's a new Windows codename on the roadmap: "Redstone." Brad Sams at Neowin unearthed the existence of the Redstone codename on April 7, calling it the "next Windows update coming in 2016." According to my sources, he's right.
I think the Server 2016 being named Redstone theory is wrong, usually Microsoft appends "<CODENAME> Server" to the server versions like Whistler Server, Longhorn Server, and so on. It'd be a departure from the trend if that somehow winds up being true though.
If that's the name they're using then it likely is a nod to Minecraft seeing as they just bought it but it's not like Minecraft is the first thing to use the word redstone.
If that's the name they're using then it likely is a nod to Minecraft seeing as they just bought it but it's not like Minecraft is the first thing to use the word redstone.
2 billion to call a windows build redstone.
2 billion to call a windows build redstone.
Maybe the reason why Microsoft are making Windows 10 a free upgrade for the first year is because they don't need to rely on Windows to make money now - they have Minecraft, which brings in loads.
Thought it was going to be "Johnson" or "Keyes"
minecraft probably makes more money for microsoft than windows does now :pwn:
i hope notch fucking sues windows for stealing its words
i hope notch fucking sues windows for stealing its words
Sorry, he sold the company and then he quit. He can't do shit.
Sorry, he sold the company and then he quit. He can't do shit.
still his word m8
still his word m8
Doesn't work like that.
Maybe the reason why Microsoft are making Windows 10 a free upgrade for the first year is because they don't need to rely on Windows to make money now - they have Minecraft, which brings in loads.
Does it? I thought pretty much everyone who wanted it, already has it. Not to mention I can't see Mojang ever releasing another good game.
Does it? I thought pretty much everyone who wanted it, already has it.
watch the counter on minecraft.net, they're still making a sale every 5-10 seconds.
Does it? I thought pretty much everyone who wanted it, already has it.
In the last 24 hours, 11,313 have bought the PC/Mac version https://minecraft.net/stats
PC/Mac makes up 15% of overall sales http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/15/6154437/minecraft-platform-xbox-ps3-ios-android-pc-mac Bend over
If that's the name they're using then it likely is a nod to Minecraft seeing as they just bought it but it's not like Minecraft is the first thing to use the word redstone.
Imagine if they ended up listening to the community back when they were asking people to pitch names for that block Windows Aspergite
Imagine if they ended up listening to the community back when they were asking people to pitch names for that block Windows Aspergite
The one time they don't listen to people's suggestions is the one time they actually come up with a good name for something. What the fuck is podzol anyway
I saw redstone and I thought about the Redstone family of rockets and/or Redstone Arsenal.
The one time they don't listen to people's suggestions is the one time they actually come up with a good name for something. What the fuck is podzol anyway
It's a real term and accurate for the purpose they used it for. "How dare they use accurate names." [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] Hot news we got the codename of Windows how exciting. This is super informative.
PC/Mac makes up 15% of overall sales http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/15/6154437/minecraft-platform-xbox-ps3-ios-android-pc-mac Bend over
Why would anyone play the console versions? They are very limited compared to the PC/MAC versions.
still his word m8
Uhh... He sold the company and the rights to the game - which included that word that he somehow has eternal control over.. (which I'm pretty sure redstone is not exclusive to Minecraft anyhow - google it and you will see that it has been used in a plethora of places outside of Minecraft even before Minecrafts time). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redstone_%28comics%29 Marvel oughta' sue Notch for using their word.
If anything it's going to be called Windows Halo or something.
I saw redstone and I thought about the Redstone family of rockets and/or Redstone Arsenal.
Yea, Redstone Arsenal was the first thought for me.
minecraft probably makes more money for microsoft than windows does now :pwn:
Not to mention Minecraft is $26 rather than $10 ever since Microsoft bought it.
Not to mention Minecraft is $26 rather than $10 ever since Microsoft bought it.
It was $13 and alpha, $20 at beta.
It was $13 and alpha, $20 at beta.
And if you got it pre-alpha it was even less. I remember my shitty infdev cobblestone house from before you had even proper caves in the ground and strip mining was the only way to get adequate ores.
Not to mention Minecraft is $26 rather than $10 ever since Microsoft bought it.
Its been $26 Since It "Released" in November 2011.
Not to mention Minecraft is $26 rather than $10 ever since Microsoft bought it.
yeah man it's micro$haft's fault that minecraft is so expensive now
the only thing that makes it worth $27 now(barely) are the mods that the mod authors aren't even allowed to make their own money off of anymore(That'd take away from any potential profit mojang could get!)
Maybe the reason why Microsoft are making Windows 10 a free upgrade for the first year is because they don't need to rely on Windows to make money now - they have Minecraft, which brings in loads.
Would be kind of cool to hit the Games tab on the start menu, and you see Chess, Minesweeper then Minecraft
"In the last 24 hours, 9.608 people bought the game. " 9608 times 26,95 = 258.935,69 per 24 hours = times 31 = 8027003 per month+/- -edit Which is pretty sad because they bought it for a shit ton of money.
