We all grew immensely in 2013, both individually with photography, and collectively as tightly knit community. To send off 2013 post what you consider to be your best shot, and optionally include some words to describe why you think it's so bad ass.

This picture really ticks all the boxes for me in terms of colour, contrast and composition. When I made this picture it was the first time I truly felt that I had developed a personal style, and often will recall this shot as an exemplar when out shooting.

This is a hard one but probably

To my surprise this shot doesn't seem to be very popular. When I first saw it I was amazed. No other shot of mine amazed me like this. It looks like a painting to me.
Very difficult to choose, sat and thought about it without looking at my photos so I could really try and think of my best photograph from memory and this is the one I came to:

May be the only photograph I've ever pre-planned and knew exactly how I wanted to compose it. I had the idea about 3 weeks prior to the actual festival. I was there in a crowd on ~90,000 people, forced myself to within yards of the barrier and then opened up the part of the crowd I was in into an open mosh pit. As the crowd parted, I pushed back and had a fair bit of space in front of me, charged the flash on the disposable and then lifted it to my eye and shot.
Seconds later I was on the floor, camera in hand cos the pit filled up with people and I fell haha. Crowdsurfed out and tried to snap a shot when I was on the other side of the barrier but this image was the last frame on the roll :(

maybe not my "best shot" but certainly my favorite.
A concrete example to myself that photos can represent a moment in time. I will never forget this day. Roughly 6 a.m. after having been up all night and denied entry to an abandoned high school by some overly-noisy dogs, we (my best friend and I) came across this foggy field. It housed the most vivid morning sun we'd ever seen. At this point our pants were ruined (having been covered in mud, dew and cockleburs,) but we couldn't care less.

This is most certainly my favorite photo of the year. Me and a mate went into the old burnt out university student building down the road. After jumping from a railing over a 2 story drop we got in, we made friends with a hobo, didn't get shanked and froze our asses off. Eventually we found this photo and did some light manipulation with some flash lights. Twas a good night.
Here's mine. Taken at the local zoo. I love not just the fact the tiger is staring at me but the reflection in the water

Very nice. Doesn't even look like it was taken at a zoo.
my personal favourite.

it's sad that I didn't take many shots in 2013, but I made an effort to when it snowed a few weeks ago.
I've always been a fan of these poles and when I saw the VP, I couldn't resist. VP stands for Virginia Power, which is now gone.
I just really like it, for some odd reason. no touch ups, just SOOC. (converted from NEF to PNG, tho)

oh
i got two, both are my favorite but for different reasons

I like this one because it just came out so well. I was boating with my family and I brought my camera along but didn't really take many photos (probably like 7 overall). I don't usually ever shoot the same scene twice, if it doesn't work the first time I accept the flaws and move on. This photo was taken at noon on our boat going about 40mph (which is fast and shaky for little boats), and has absolutely no editing to it. I was really impressed with how well it turned out given the conditions, and it is exactly how I wanted the scene to look.

This photo I like for more sentimental reasons than personal reasons. Meeting up with Marley and Steve (Blazefresh and Bopie respectively) was one of my highlights of the year, and a big learning experience for me in a life and photo perspective. Pulling up to Steve's place in cali was surreal, finally meeting these two that I have known for years, and they are both really awesome people. To me this photo was my favorite that I got out of the trip, and to me it's a fantastic example of the style I go for (symmetry, candid, bold, and contrasty). I admire Marley and Steve's photos so much, and this was a shot that they both really liked, and it was a huge ego boost getting their approval.

I just love the raw & unfiltered emotions in this photo. Medical emergencies also raise the question of our mortality which the majority of the population seem to forget these days.

Learned alot in 2013, got my first full frame, acquired an eye for what I really wanted in an image.
It's hard to just pick a favorite out of the bunch but this one stood out for me when I took it.

I remember looking at this image on my camera and just being in awe, I was pretty proud of it.
I don't know, I like a lot equally, but this one I suppose. Especially because it's personal:

you and your gf are seriously the cutest thing like all the stuff you post about her i wish i was dating you

i started to take photography a bit more seriously this year and this photo kind of marked the start for that, it's one of the first i actually shared (with friends and through facebook etc.) and i received such positive and encouraging feedback ("you can't have taken that, you only see pics like that on google") which really boosted my confidence, resulting in me feeling a lot more comfortable sharing my photography which in turn even resulted in me landing a few paid jobs over the course of the rest of the year
so even though it's a fairly simple shot, technique wise, it was definitely the most personally important one i took this year
that was my story i hope you enjoyed it please retweet

Great picture. I'm sure its someone doing a hand stand in the field but I just can't help but hope its someone falling face first from a height and that its just perfectly timed
I didn't shoot much in 2013. Hoping to change that this year!
Here's my favorite/best in my opinion (mostly due to sentimental value and stuff).

Planes are neat. :D
I'm not sure if I got better or worse this last year. I've definitely become less trigger-happy and I spend more time thinking about my photographs before firing the shutter. Film does that to 'ya!

i'd like to think this, but i'm not sure

I consider myself lucky with this one since it was taken with my dad's old Minolta. It's got problems with light leaks and that showed on nearly half the roll, except for this one and a few others.

It was tough choosing because a couple of my photos have some good qualities, but none of them are the all-round best of what I've taken. Wound up choosing this one because I like the colours and the textures of the wood and the rock. Plus, good memories of my travels through eastern Europe with two best friends.
Haven't done any real photography since august or so, it really died down with me for some reason.
My personal favorite:
