Teenagers these days seem to accuse people of being pedophiles when they don't like them. They do this because they know pretty much everyone hates pedophiles and kids are always innocent. This happened when I was 15 and it has probably been happening for thousands of years. I'm not sure if the word pedophile was abused as much back in my days as a teenager as much as it is today. But I've heard teenagers talk about how disgusting their teachers are and claim that they are pedophiles because they get upset with them for not doing their homework.
Do you guys think this is a big issue in general?
No.
I did know a girl once who accused a Chorus teacher in Middle School of sexually assaulting her and he ended up losing his job and had to go through a ton of shit for something he didn't do. One day though, the girl was yapping about how she got rid of him to some friends in class and another kid managed to record her entire confession.
Follow up of what happened to her
Because she was so young she couldn't be formally charged with what she had done but her family was fined heavily, she was expelled from the district and sent to an alternative learning center, and her family's reputation was forever tarnished. Which is sad that her family had to pay for her crime. Her father owned a few profitable car dealerships that went under once things surfaced; in fact, last time I checked they moved away like thieves in the night. Everywhere she goes now that record will follow, and essentially she's become the girl who cried wolf. So if she ever does get sexually assaulted the police might not take it as serious.
Yeah I agree, I'm currently in high school and a lot of teachers get called pedophiles, funnily it's all the older male teachers
Girls at my school seem to throw around the term "pedophile" when they want to describe an older guy who is creepy. I've never seen someone really mean it.
Yeah. In grade 8 I was accused of threatning to rape a girl because during recess soccer-games i'd say "our team raped", etc. As a result I had to spend most of the semester helping the librarian stamp books, wasn't allowed on the bus, had a horrible rep, etc etc.

That's funny I think same thing happened in my school except the teacher actually was acting very inappropriate toward the girls.
It either doesn't happen much in my school or it happens so much I don't notice it. I'll have to keep an ear out.
Doesnt really happen here. But we threw the term Pedofile once against our teacher. He had sex with a 13 year old girl and can no longer be a teacher. Though it was quite obvious that he was.

no. it's just teenagers being dramatic. unfortunately it means that a teenager may not always be taken seriously when there's an actual pedophile chasing little girls.
I am noticing a trend of this type of thing.
Teenage girls throw around the "I got raped" thing a lot, and it sure as fuck garners sympathy and is enough to convict innocent people over something they didn't do, especially if they are older than them.

The horrible bit is, you don't know when a girl is actually telling the truth, it's like the boy who cried wolf.

uh well, that's because a lot of teenage girls get raped. a large majority of rape victims are females under the age of 18.
same with adults who abuse their positions
it's all shit
I think it's a huge deal because of cases like the one mentioned by Bredirish123.
It's like the ultimate trick card to pull. For some reason people stop caring when they hear the word or something. Calling someone a pedo is a bit worse than just saying the person sexually assaulted someone, but they are equally dangerous. The latter is especially effective against politicians..
Western society seems to have a phobia for it.

i don't think most people quite understand the shame, stigma, and difficulty involved in being a rape victim
i can't even claim to understand it because it's never happened to me, but i sure as hell know it's not something you could or would easily fake
[editline]18th December 2011[/editline]
i mean i'm sure it has happened in the past, and it's disgusting for both the person accused and everyone who's ever been raped or knows someone who was
Why do people always think that pedos are old men?

No shit.
I meant it as in the ones that aren't telling the truth. From personal experience, I know at least one girl who claimed to have been raped, but she later told me she was bullshiting because she was "confused about her sexuality" or something like that. Everything else I hear from other people, usually old friends in the US, or some crazy stuff on the internet.
I understand it's a legitimate problem, so I hope I am not giving the wrong impression, but you have to admit it is becoming a common thing that is tossed around, and later proven false.
knowing at least one person doesn't particularly make it common. i knew a couple of despicable individuals who threw around accusations just to hurt others but i couldn't say it's common, even if it is just an attempt to not reduce the severity of a possible rape.
The gym teacher at my old school is a pedophile. Back in the 1970s he was fucking some girl that was actually in my mother's class (I'm pretty sure it was when she was in grade eight) and for whatever fucked up reason, he's still teaching there. He was fired, but they re-hired him.

It seems that a number people have a person or number of people they knew that threw it around, either for attention, pity, or to harm others.
Maybe it's not exactly common, but it doesn't seem that rare either.
Over here when someone is touching someone someone usually shouts "RAPE! RAPE!"

My science teacher i had last year is a huge pedophile, not an accusation but the truth, he would stare down the girls and have the slutty girls in the front of the class or with him at his desk. If one of the girls came in late, no problem just go to your seat, but if a guy came in nope, stay outside of the classroom for 10 minutes.
What was funny is that we were talking about in a another class and the teacher said she was suprised that that topic hadn't come sooner and that every class she has talks about it. She even said that when she was in his class that he would do the same thing.
Forgot to add he would wear shirts that "showed" off his pubic hair looking chest.

That's fucked up. I want to slap the shit out of her.
Yeah i've heard of this stuff, But eventually they get caught and generally get sued for it.
They should at least give students or teachers a benefit of doubt to prevent false accusations.

She got the next closest thing; because she was so young she couldn't be formally charged with what she had done but her family was fined heavily, she was expelled from the district and sent to an alternative learning center, and her family's reputation was forever tarnished.
