Trump misses deadline to waiver moving US embassy to Jerusalem
Donald Trump appears to have missed a deadline for signing a waiver on a US law requiring its embassy to be moved to Jerusalem, in an act of brinkmanship over one of the Middle East’s most fraught issues.
According to diplomats and Palestinians officials, the original deadline was expected to have fallen on Friday at midnight and was pushed to Monday. That deadline passed without an announcement after a White House official said no action would be taken on Monday.

Some reports suggest Trump may reluctantly announce the signing of the waiver in the coming days, others that he may also announce that he plans to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The latter would result in the Palestinian leadership “stopping contacts” with the US, a diplomatic adviser to President Mahmoud Abbas said .
In June, Trump issued a waiver to comply with the 1995 law, which insists the president must relocate the embassy to Jerusalem or explain at six-monthly intervals why doing so is not in the national security interests of the US.

Trump is two months late with implementing sanctions on Russia after Congress gave him a deadline of October 1st.
I'm sure Kushner is in his ear, pushing for Israel, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was merely a case of being too occupied with shitposting on Twitter and panicking over a failing cover-up to do homework on time.
13-year-olds across the nation, and the world, are justifiably pissed off for being held to a higher standard of responsibility than the goddamn President of the United States of America.
I don't think this is it slipping his mind, he talked a lot before (I think even prior to election) on moving the capital to Jerusalem.
Though I think it's really stupid to have a situation where the embassy is "perpetually" moving to Jerusalem and so must be "perpetually" wavered every 6 months to not go.
That means Bush Jr. and Obama had to waver it 16 times each throughout their presidencies.

Blame the 90s fucked up ccongress which gave us great hits like this, doma, dont-ask-you're-discharged, eight years of loud mouthed investigations, and large amounts of hypocricy and debauchery.
Oh and they decided to deplete the worlds helium supply for no reason and it actually did deplete the worlds helium supply and thankfully fracking was able to reverse the trend but now theres no giant stockpile of it
Trump has informed Abbas that the US embassy is moving to Jerusalem

I'm sure Jared Kushner is behind this. When you realize Trump appoints the worst possible person for the job, it makes sense why he assigned Kushner the task of bringing peace to the Middle East, among the many other things he's saddled his son-in-law with. Because we recently found out that Kushner had a company that was funding illegal Israeli settlements around the same time as he was secretly lobbying world governments to reject a UN condemnation of Israel for building illegal settlements. Absolutely perfect Trumpian choice and nepotism to boot.
I wonder if Kushner demanded a White House position in exchange for keeping quiet about the Logan Act violations and the whole mass collusion with Russia thing, and Trump didn't overtly want to commit nepotism since his preferred method is cronyism.
At least Canada gave Stephen Harper the boot before this happened. Before he was elected Prime Minister, he had vowed to always defend and support Israel, no matter what, and then as Prime Minister he doubled down and said he would defend Israel even if it hurt Canada diplomatically. I wouldn't be able to live in a world with that much stupid hovering on either side of the border.

He's also recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, easily the best thing he has done as president

For Israel, at least. For Palestine, America's diplomatic relationship with Palestine, and America's diplomatic standing with the rest of the world, none of those have improved by this act.
But on the other hand at least no Americans lost their health care with this one.

Palestinian relationship with the us was already horrible and only getting worse since the Taylor force act was introduced. Besides, once Abbas dies, Hamas will pretty much run the Palestinian Authority so it's destined to go to shit anyway.

Exceedingly low bar to clear

Appointing Mattis as Secretary of Defense, pulling out of TPP, and ending the CIA's weapons program in Syria are way better things for America imo.

Seems like the recognition will be coming tomorrow.
Oh great. Because I really need another war in my life right now.

Would this start a war?
Would this start a war?
Embassy attacks across the middle east at least. Nobody is going to war but all our middle east allies have said not to do this either
Would this start a war?
It's the Middle East. Everything is a reason to start a war.

Depending on how he words it, which obviously will be poorly, if Trump declares "all" of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, this would include the Palestinian claim on East Jerusalem as their potential capital.
You can imagine the violence that will ensue from that alone.
