You're not tricking me this time.
There's only one thing I want from Atilla. Armies not being able to march past your forces fortified in front of a bridge right on top of a mountain pass just because the AI selected besieging the city right behind you instead. That made me ragequit a campaign so fucking quick.
The battles were (one of) the worst aspect(s) of Rome II, and with them being even faster paced I won't get my hopes up. I hoped they would drop the region system, but to be fair I never spent enough time with RII to really get to know it. Really glad that they redid the icons for units, though, the icons in Rome II sucked ass. Definitely won't buy it on release, though, I'll have to see how this plays out.

The thing about R2 that I hate is that it killed the shogun 2 multiplayer scene. I'm definitely not gonna buy this till it goes on sale though. You just can't trust CA with new releases.
Honestly, the battles in Rome II for me were the best. Struck a nice cord between the super fast paced S2 and some of the older games.
I hoped they would drop the region system, but to be fair I never spent enough time with RII to really get to know it.
It's one of the best new features they've created for the Total War games tbh. Especially now with the governor system they've put into Rome II, so they will have real importance. In Rome II it gives the framework of reigning over something large, and I like how they're advancing that.
Really glad that they redid the icons for units, though, the icons in Rome II sucked ass.
See I'm in the camp of artistic icons are better. I don't like the old style cards, and I really liked the change towards artistic ones such as in Shogun 2 and Rome II. My issue with them in Rome II is that you couldn't tell the styles apart based on culture all that easily, and sometimes units did blend together since they were similar. That's why I prefer Bullgod's stuff, because it's a mixture of the two.
Granted all TW naval battles sucked
whaaat. Taking a Roanoke into a fleet of Japanese wooden ships and being able to manually control the guns is one of the coolest and greatest things CA have ever implemented. Hell even Empire had solid naval gameplay once you got pass early game brig/sloop fleets. The only naval battles that sucked were vanilla Shogun2 and the horribly bugged Rome2 launch when transports could ram straight through command ships with ease.
You have to applaud CA for letting out a preview build of a game even with all the controversy. That's commendable.
I like how the main menu is similar to Medieval 2's.
Really? I found them to be the most entertaining out of all of them, sans naval battles. Granted all TW naval battles sucked
I dunno I thought the Naval battles in Rome II were awesome, it was a lot faster paced and action oriented than previous ones, ramming and fire arrows can absolutely cause havoc on boats fast. Plus you can land your guys afterwards and join the land war.
Armies not being able to march past your forces fortified in front of a bridge right on top of a mountain pass just because the AI selected besieging the city right behind you instead.
this can't happen in any total war game?
I always liked the campaign maps from the early TW games such like Shogun and the first Medieval TW, where it just was region based army movement. You'd get interesting battles and very sometimes even four way clashes. Ever since the free army movement on campaign maps since Rome TW, the campaign gameplay always felt so gimmicky to me. There hasn't been a single TW game where I didn't felt this way.
this can't happen in any total war game?
There's also the Path Blocked mechanic in Shogun 2 and Rome 2, sounds like a bug on his part or a MAJOR dev oversight.
this can't happen in any total war game?
No, it happened to me in Rome 2. Was playing Suebi, had one of my armies fortify on the passage between those large mountains to Boii start capital, rather then having to go engage my army the AI somehow walks right past it, completely ignoring zone of control and besieging my city.
well that's obviously just a freak bug then? seems like a silly thing to ask for from atilla when 99% of people haven't experienced that issue in any previous game
Yeah that's literally never happened to me, zone of control works fine

I tweaked mine to the point where I had an hour long battle once, but to be fair it was 70+ units of hoplites in a city siege, so it would be lengthy regardless. [editline]6th January 2015[/editline]
You have to applaud CA for letting out a preview build of a game even with all the controversy. That would make me the happiest man alive.
The campaign map looks gorgeous this time around, loving the font they used for it.
please no more even faster battles with even more action butons to spam, I want to concentrate on unit type and position, not superspecial action move with +0.5 morale bonus
I'll still buy this on launch. Total War fanboy 4 lyfe
I'll only buy it in the sales. After Rome 2 I still feel pretty cheated.
Never had a real problem with Rome II myself, I've play through the campaigns but I never saw anything that would cause an alarm, save for the odd unit movements in the final tutorial. Then again I've only played the campaign for what, 5 hours. Edit: I'm still gonna keep an eye on this before I buy it soon. I love me a Total War game, and the day they're gone would feel terrible for me.
