• Human Augmentation - It will change everything!

What do you look forward to the most in the future? Right now I'm really looking forward to something that is right around the corner, human augmentation. In particular, human augmentation through nanotechnology. I'm talking about nanotechnology upgrades similar to that in Deus Ex and other science fiction works. Nanotechnology is the wave of the future and it will allow you to become a better, stronger, faster, and smarter human being. This won't just stop at improving our existing abilities, it will give us new abilities that you can hardly fathom, such as invisibility. What do you think of augmenting humans, be it through mechanics, nanotechnology, or any other means?
It would be pretty cool. But then you have people who can't afford it and then people will never be hired for good jobs because they don't have brain or muscle augmentations. We have a long time to go before any augmentations happen so we'll worry about that when it comes to it.
my vision is augmented, etc
Give me laser eyes.

Finally I can have my dick augmented to be a dragon dick Rrerr
Finally I can have my dick augmented to be a dragon dick Rrerr
bionic dragon dick [editline]12th May 2011[/editline] wait shit this isn't the dragon megathread
Androids will be awesome too.
I want a television screen set inside my eyes so when I'm in class I can watch Lakers games.
bionic dragon dick [editline]12th May 2011[/editline] wait shit this isn't the dragon megathread
Oh shit Well its still related Also, I hope I can have the power to keep awaken myself or go to sleep when I feel like it Or hallucinate That would be p. cool Or if I could not feel pain
No, you will never be invisible. That shit, along with a slew of other video game-type abilities, is impossible from a physics standpoint. Even if nanotechnology reaches the point where it can be used in this manner within your lifetimes, rest assured, you will never be able to afford it. There are much more practical technologies than nanotechnology- blame Hollywood for turning it into the 21st-century equivalent of magic.

Basic physics. Find a way to bend light artificially, carry around the portable nuclear generator necessary to provide enough energy for such a task (you can calculate the theoretical maximum efficiency power requirement yourself- rest assured, it's high), and somehow integrate this across every square inch of your body, and it might be possible. But #1 is the real sticker. I got a titanium hip, way ahead of all you bony hip people. Getting my second one by the end of summer maybe. :smug: Not quite augmentation, but still. Fucking titanium man. Stuff they make the shuttles out of.
If you want human augmentation, conventional technology is almost there. Robotic limbs can be controlled as naturally as real ones, and may soon have the strength and dexterity to match. Titanium can replace limbs and joints. Artificial organs keep people alive. Synthetic eyes have given the blind newfound sight. Thermal and electromagnetic vision can be provided with a device as simple as a set of binoculars. I'm not here to be a killjoy, it's just that there is no reason to expect these things from handwaved magical nanotechnology, while more conventional and significantly less glitzy tech can actually do it. Of course, it's fantastically expensive, and heavily restricted, so real-world limitations get in the way somewhat. Deus Ex is a great game, and the sequel looks like it may live up to its predecessor, but don't take it for anything other than cyberpunk fantasy.

Dick Cheney doesn't have a heart beat, he has some sort of external blood circulator.

Looks like you've been playing too much Deus Ex sir.
sweet i can now be a spartan(halo) or a robot person like in ghost in the shell
Finally I can have my dick augmented to be a dragon dick Rrerr
Someone please have my arm augmented so I can rip his brain out from his nose.
Where's Eudoxia when you need him? Anyway, personally I think splicing is the way forward. Its effects remain integrated into the system and because of that, it can self-repair and otherwise take care of itself.
I think the difference between poor and the rich would just go to ridiculous ends if this were to come true
I want a television screen set inside my eyes so when I'm in class I can watch Lakers games.
You want a video projection technology in your eye just so you can watch some stupid sports? :frog:
just want you to know nanotechnology is a coined term that means almost nothing today. most microprocessors fall under the category of "nanotechnology" aka a pentium 4 isn't going to make me invisible
I'd like poison glands, or wings. That or the eyes of a cat. And the Sonar of a bat, without the blind part.
Would be cool. Until everyone kills each other.
