• "Get Over Here" and Enjoy Scorpion Pizza, Bacon-wrapped corn, and deep-fried Cheezies at the Calgary

I hope the Scorpion Pizza vendor will add more scorpions to each slice of pizza. I had scorpions before in Beijing and they tasted alright. They were fried to the point that I can only taste oil and some caramelized mush.
Bacon-wrapped corn, deep-fried Cheezies, and seasoned scorpion pizza – yes, with real scorpions – are among the dozens of new food items that will be on offer at the 2014 Calgary Stampede. “This year we asked our food vendors to let their imaginations run wild and to create some of the craziest foods we’ve ever had,” Midway manager James Radke said in a blog post introducing this year’s fare. “They have stepped up to the plate like never before, with 32 new foods!” Other items include a nearly two-foot long hot dog (comprised of a jumbo sausage served in a baguette), deep-fried donut bacon cheeseburgers (which is just as it sounds), and “Million Dollar Baby Mac & Cheese” (infused with truffle oil and topped with crab meat and sundried tomatoes). nope. the rest sounds serviceable though. Edit: especially that mac and cheese.
Huh, I'll have to go again this year and try some.
Nothing says cowboys and cart races like scorpions on your pizza.

No thanks. I'll stick with those little sugary donuts.
Scorpion doesn't actually sound all that bad. I ate one out of a tiny phial of vodka once, and the meat on it (what little there was, it was a somewhat small scorpion) was kinda alright. Wouldn't mind having such things as pizza toppings if they were done right. Probably be expensive though, since detoxifying the little buggers and cooking them just right would take a fair bit of skill. Also there's that old carnie classic we know and love as the Luther Burger.
I've always wanted to taste scorpion, but I'd probably chicken out if I ever had the opportunity.
Too bad the pizza itself looks rather lackluster.
Bacon wrapped hotdog actually sounds pretty damn good
I had scorpion in Thailand, it's not as bad as you think. Heck I'd eat that Pizza.
Just think of scorpions as basically tiny lobsters, and they're way easier to imagine eating.
Just think of scorpions as basically tiny lobsters, and they're way easier to imagine eating.
More like spiders. euugh
More like spiders. euugh
And spiders taste like crab.
Just think of scorpions as basically tiny lobsters, and they're way easier to imagine eating.
I'm a freak, but there's nothing nearly as disgusting to me as the taste of crustaceans.
I'f like it if we could get fried bugs in bags at a convenience store like a bag of chips. A scorpion would be very easy to dip in a bowl of salsa
Too bad the pizza itself looks rather lackluster.
Agree, the slice is too thin and the cheese are not caramelized enough. I know because I make at least one pizza every single week, from scratch.
I had scorpion in Thailand, it's not as bad as you think. After watching cooking shows fried tarantula looks pretty tasty. I'd prefer it just the legs only, not the entire petrified thing though.
Just think of scorpions as basically tiny lobsters, and they're way easier to imagine eating.
I can't eat lobster because I think of them as giant scorpions.
Too bad the pizza itself looks rather lackluster.
Isn't that just american pizza? :v:
Isn't that just american pizza? :v:
I don't think so. Not all of the time, anyway.
Imagine buying your friend a deep dish pizza stuffed with scorpions. Not a pretty picture, but they taste pretty good

I was keen to try fried Tarantula towards the end of my tour but couldn't find it anywhere.
Bacon wrapped hotdog actually sounds pretty damn good
It's brilliant. I don't see why it's not common in the US. In Norway it's sold at literally every gas station and kiosk that sells hot dogs.

more places should do pretzel-wrapped hotdogs
