Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition, the definitive package for the open-world, free-running zombie survival sensation, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for multiplayer, achievements and leaderboards, and a 17% launch discount. As the light is dying, so are your chances of survival. A mysterious outbreak has turned a city's population into running, flesh-eating killers who grow severely more aggressive at night. You are also turned into a runner when your mission to retrieve some sensitive documents from the hopelessly infested city of Harran goes awry. Some people speak of a cure, some worship an aloof, self-proclaimed savior, and others fight each other for supplies or territory control. But all of them have one thing in common: they are constantly on the run. Master the flow of your swift parkour moves and your weapon-wielding skills in order to stay alive. During the day the infected are less energetic, relying on their numbers to gang-up on you before you can scale the nearby building, overrun them with a buggy, or club them to death with your makeshift destructible weapons. But when darkness falls, the tables are turned: your enemies grow stronger, bolder, and terrifyingly more agile while unspeakable horrors crawl out of their daytime hibernation. Don't get followed or you may not live to see daybreak ever again. Also the multiplayer is between GOG Galaxy users only. [sp]Fingers crossed for this game being ready for Crossplay support[/sp]
but what if I want it on steam :saddowns:
but what if I want it on steam :saddowns:
Then buy it on Steam, what's the problem? Others like a more DRM-free approach.
I like how this game is not available on Steam in Germany, but I can buy it on GOG without any problems. Great!

What are you talking about? There's multiplayer between Steam users too. [editline]16th March 2016[/editline] Sure, you can't play with those who got it on gog, but still.
The Dying light devs have been absolute bro's First the map editor and workshop, then a giant expansion, now DRM free versions being available. Its a shame more AAA devs aren't like this.
Dying Light is one of the best games I've played in years. If you love first person melee combat, parkour, and zombies, then this game is for you.
Artificially locking down multiplayer between different services on the same platform is a dick move, no matter what.
GoG Galaxy and Steam use different servers, it isn't artificial, they just can't connect to eachother (yet?)
I doubt Dying Light is using Valve servers to host multiplayer, there's no reason that they can't have both services connect to their servers.
Appearently, Galaxy is not required if you want to make a LAN party.
Artificially locking down multiplayer between different services on the same platform is a dick move, no matter what.
You can't be sure the barriers are artificial. For all we know, there could be technical limitations.
This can only be a good thing, Steam needs competition.
Artificially locking down multiplayer between different services on the same platform is a dick move, no matter what.
Considering GOG already does have games that allow you to play multiplayer with Steam players and Galaxy is still in beta, I'd bet this was a technical issue rather than a conscious decision.
It's all the more surprising that this was published by WB Games.
To be fair, I feel like WB Games doesn't get involved in the PC side of things much. They're just the publishers, it's up to whoever it is that decides to port a game to PC on how well it'll run.

They most likely cannot connect them in this situation.
Steamworks lets you use it for networking which handles punching and whatnot, although I seriously doubt they use that.
