During testing, Chevy engineers discovered that in a few cases of extreme heat inside a car’s cabin, a phone would suspend charging or shut off completely. To help combat this problem, APC delivers chilled air directly from the vehicle’s air conditioning and ventilation system, allowing the phone to stay cool, even in hot environments. The system only runs when drivers turn on the HVAC system.
It's also better for the battery to stay cool. This is a pretty neat idea.
Not bad. I think I'll rig an AC vent poking up through the top of my dashboard to keep my phone chilled while I'm dashcamming with it.
Every summer when I use my phone's GPS to get anywhere, I need to also charge my phone at the same time. And every time I do, it overheats and shuts off. I did find that putting the A/C on and directing it at my phone helped but this is a really cool idea and I'm glad car manufacturers are acknowledging the problem

I honestly think the only reason it doesn't overheat is because I work third shift so it never truly gets hot in the cab of my truck while it's in there.
Seems like a cool idea
Well, you're gonna need that phone to call a tow truck if you buy a chevy, so it's only fitting that they do all they can to make sure your phone is operational when their vehicle breaks down....
This is a good addition to wireless charging in the car. That alone makes a ton of heat, add constant GPS usage and potentially poor reception and you've got an overheating phone in no time.
This is a cool feature but it's so dumb to call this new technology, it's literally a tube from the aircon to the charger
i still thought wireless charging was a brand new thing
i still thought wireless charging was a brand new thing
oral b used to sell electric toothbrushes that used wireless charging back in the early '90s. Michael Faraday laid the groundwork for wireless charging in 1831
This is a cool feature but it's so dumb to call this new technology, it's literally a tube from the aircon to the charger
It's still new tech. Many technologies we have today are combinations of previous technology.
It's still new tech. Many technologies we have today are combinations of previous technology.
It's still not new technology. You wouldn't call an additional vent aimed at the driver's nutsack a new technology, it's just expansion of the existing air conditioning to cover another hot spot (dohoho). Anyway this is exactly what I have been doing already. I have this bendy rod phone holder that sticks to the windshield and use normal car lighter powered charger to charge the phone while using it for navigation. At some point the phone will overheat so much it will not shut off, but stop charging up (the phone triggers safety that keeps it from charging a battery at too high temperature (it could literally blow up)). We twist one of the dashboard vents upwards so it blows cold air straight at the phone and it helps wonders.
I hope they compensate space for the new 23" iPhone 8 in 2years.
How much of use is it when you have your phone up on the windshield as a GPS? It doesn't get either the HVAC or the wireless charging then.
This is why you put phone mounts in front of the dashboard's vents.
Then use the windshield vents...
Not all cars can blow A/C through the windshield vents. Mine can't. That being said, its an older Ford so A/C on/off and vent controls are on the same knob. I imagine its not a big issue on new cars since most of them are computer controlled.

If I couldn't do AC and vents simultaneously I'd be there for an hour every morning.

Either that or the glove/make your knuckle bleed method. :v: Engine takes too long too warm up anyway.

Put an AC vent over the charger, file a patent, sell it as an entirely new package level
defog, not defrost
I guess I never have that issue in the winter then. Only in the summer when its super humid and I just blow air halfway between warm and cold through the windshield vents.
